Mates; if you've read werewolf stories on here, then you've heard of them. A mate is basically the soul mate the other person is destined to be with. It's literally just short for soul mate. Writers get pretty lazy. Now, there are a few werewolf stories on here that don't include mates. However, they're nearing extinction. Cliche werewolf tales on here begin like this: Wendy is the main character, a cliche girl who introduces us to her life, describing her family, what she looks like, maybe a best friend and she'll probably talk about her dark, traumatic past. Some drama will take place and we'll meet her mate, an Alpha. Like, every single main character's soul mate is an Alpha, the pack leader, Humphrey. Every single one. It's shocking when they're not an Alpha. Wendy here is like, oh my gosh, my mate is an Alpha. That like never happens to anyone. Yeah, sure Wendy. You've obviously been brought up on a deserted island on a different planet. Why not give the Betas, Omegas, Warriors or even the Pack Doctors a chance?
So Wendy, the main character in these cliche stories, is walking around lost in her thoughts when she suddenly walks into a wall. Actually, a wall doesn't usually have abs- this is a person. Not just any person but Humphrey, her mate. Wendy starts checking him out and he notices after he's finished gawking back at her. Huh, where is this leading to? All of a sudden, Wendy gets embarrassed and runs off apologising. I've seen this quite often on Wattpad and in most werewolf stories. In fact, this first encounter is so common I'll give it the name the, Why Does This Guy Look Like a Wall Cliche?
Another cliche scenario in these werewolf stories is when Humphrey kidnaps Wendy. Because he's her mate, he just picks her up, locks her in his room and explains to Wendy the whole werewolf stuff later. Kidnapping is actually really common on Wattpad; vampires do it, werewolves, gang leaders, boy bands, every guy really. I wouldn't be surprised if some granny done it. Don't worry guys, want to know how to pick up girls?: kidnap them. Apparently, it's the new sexy
Oh wait, I just remembered a disturbing one here which I've read more than a few times. Wendy the new girl walks to her new desk in her new class and ends up sitting right next to, that's right you guessed it, her mate Humphrey. Humphrey will then, without out the rest of the class noticing because class is just that interesting, start...how can I say it...just give me a sec to make this PG...playing with her underneath the desk. Yep, they're both really into it if you catch my drift. I'm just saying, if two mates starting doing that in the desks in front of me, I would scream and I wouldn't stop
Have you ever heard of marking? It's what a male werewolf will do to their mate by biting their neck to show all other guys that she is theirs. I know, werewolves just took a vampire turn but apparently neck biting until the other person bleeds is a turn on and that's why it's all over Wattpad. That's right, if you ever want someone to like you just bite their neck. Make sure you do it in a hot way though, you wouldn't want to creep them out. Yep, that person would not leave you alone, but it might be more because they need you to go to court for a restraining order rather than because they've fallen in love with you. At least you'll be on their mind though. Well neck bite marking is a cliche but a lot of people make it work and it's usually done without the other person's permission. Let's take the typical series of events. Humphrey has kidnapped Wendy, Wendy tries to escape but Humphrey catches her and starts shouting at her because a victim running away from their kidnapper is a terrible thing. Humphrey then says something along the lines of Sorry but I can't have other males thinking you're available and marks her. A lot of times, marking is actually pleasurable and the girl ends up moaning because who wouldn't like some supernatural beast sinking their needle like teeth into the side of your neck until you bleed? Anyway, since this is usually what happens, Wendy in this case starts moaning as well. Humphrey then says You're mine now. Again, I'm not trash talking the cliches, just listing them here
