The gunshots echo in my ears, one after the other at a steady pace.
I continue until the shotgun runs out of ammo before switching to the sidearm. The screams of civilians are faint to me, my focus too intense to think about anything else.
Die. All of you worthless pieces of Marleyan trash.
Debris litters the ground, more crumbling from the surrounding buildings.
Larger chunks crush some of those below, making flesh and blood spatters on the concrete streets. I laugh to myself, my bullet casings hitting the ground under me. Women, children, men, it doesn't matter who on the enemies' side dies. As long as it happens.
Eren did all this? That's hot.
I suppose I should thank him for freeing me when I get to see him again.
Another titan comes into view from an opposing rooftop, covered in steel plates of armor. There's someone on its back, manning heavy duty artillery and shooting at Eren. The titan is on all fours, I know it from somewhere.
Scouts fly over the internment zone as a distraction whilst Eren engages the bone faced titan, the jaw titan, I think. Thunder spears are thrown, exploding more sides off empty buildings when dodged.
The wind whistles in my ear and I feel a shift in the air behind me. Quickly, I swivel in place, handgun still held up. I come face to face with a scout, my gun at his head and his sword stopping inches from the side of my neck.
The soldier stares back at me with wide eyes, lips moving silently before sound comes out. "...Y/n?"
My own name barely registers for a moment. Hearing it after so long feels almost like it's not mine.
Slowly, I lower the gun. My brows furrow, and it takes me a moment to sort through my head to find my memories. "Connie." I say evenly, recognizing him. He looks different than I remember.
"Holy shit." Are the first real words he gets out before he traps me in a hug, his swords clinking together in his hands. I tense, not expecting...affection. I don't return the hug, out of both shock and uncertainty. Part of me wants to reciprocate, but a bigger part wants to shove him off, feeling trapped even though I'm sure I can pull away.
Connie pulls back after a moment, looking my over head to toe a few times. "What happened to you? Are you a...warrior?" he asks as he gets a better look at the blood splattered uniform I'm currently wearing.
I glance down at myself before shaking my head. "No." I reply curtly. "Long story."
He lets out a relieved sigh when I say I'm not a warrior. Just the fact I'm wearing the cloth of my enemy makes my skin itch, but it's all I have.
Connie gently squeezes my shoulder. "Let's get you to the airship."
"Airship?" I mutter skeptically, blinking away tired haze. I'm not getting prodded to stay awake anymore, so my adrenaline is the only thing keeping me vigilant.
He nods repeatedly. "Uh huh, Onyakapon and Yelena are up there with Hange, overseeing everything. The plan is going well."
They have a plan? I'm surprised they would agree with this massacre. My brows furrow and I give a curt nod.
Footsteps echo through the area, drawing our attention. The beast titan is making its way through the street, heading towards the scene. It immediately goes to grab a fistful of rubble and toss it at the scouts that approach him. Most of them dodge the attack, though a couple get clipped and join those on the ground.
My jaw feathers. "Screw the airship, step back." I tell Connie firmly, not bothering to check if he actually listened before I turn to fully face the battle.
