Dux POV

It has been three days since Malum disappeared and Iratus was still heartbroken that her only pup had left the pack. I sent out seekers out everyday to try to catch his scent and get a clue where he went. This time, I went out myself.

"Stop." I called out, holding up a clenched fist. Lapis shifted under me and crouched down. I slid off his back, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath. Three wolves laid down on the forest's mossy floor, waiting for me to pick up a scent.

Breathing in, I took in the scent of the forest. The earthy scent filled my nose, I then started to pick apart the scent. Lapis, Bark, Stump, and Crack's scent were easily picked off. The scent of rabbit and squirrels were ignored until a faint scent filled my nose. It was easy to miss to the average wolf.

"Crack." I said without moving from my position. Crack was the best seeker in the pack. If I could find the scent, then he could definitely find it as well. He padded to my side and took a whiff of the air.

"North. The mountain pass." he grunted, pointing with his muzzle to a range of mountains to the side of us.

"That's forbidden territory." I growled, breaking my stance and leaping back onto Lapis' back. Raising my spear, I waved the others to follow. We started back towards camp at a brisk pace.

Reaching the rest of the pack, I was met by Iratus at the front.

"Have you found him?" she asked, anxiety swarm her eyes. I clenched my jaws and nodded.

"He was heading towards the mountain pass, north." I answered, briskly walking past her into my den. She stopped respectfully at the entrance and whined.

"He would never do that. He was a loyal member of the pack, even if he had some problems. Alpha! You must understand! He would never do that! He must have been taken, or forced to go there!" she cried. I sighed and turned around and placed a hand over her head.

"I understand. However, his scent trail leads to the mountains. I smelled him going to the pass without anyone else, I must uphold the pack rule." I reassured her. She nodded and padded back to her den shared with other members of the pack. I watched her leave before heading back into my den.

I stalked towards the table and played with a strand of my hair. Sighing, I pulled the bowl towards me and poured some water in it.

"Serene, I'm here to report the search party for Malum. Last scent trail, leading to the North Mountain Pass." I called out, hands on either side of the bowl. I stared intently into the bowl when a murky picture of the moon goddess appeared in the water. Her image nodded as I watched her turn around and a shelf full of wolves formed. Looking among the wolves, she stopped and reached out to pull out a wolf with a scar running down his face. Turning back to me, she frowned and caressed the figure lovingly before placing him on a table besides her.

Looking back at me, she nodded once more before muttering something under her breath and the wolf disintegrated before my eyes. As the wolf's ashes trailed in the wind, a strong force took hold of my heart as a flash of pain passed before my eyes. Serene turned to the side as she sadly waved her hand and the picture shattered.

Clearing my throat, I sniffled and walked towards the entrance on unsteady feet. This is the first in many years that a pack member had been removed.

Everyone was already gathered in front of my den as they awaited the news.

"Everyone! Malum, knowing the rules, has entered the North Mountain Pass. Let this be a warning to future members, do not enter the pass." I announced, eyes shifting from member to member, letting a strong presence wash over them, comforting in their sadness. I nodded and the all dispersed.

Shuffling towards my bed, I collapsed onto the furs and slowly drifted off into a dreamless sleep.

A howl broke my slumber and I jumped up in shock. It sounded like Razor, but he was with Angelica. I grabbed a spear from the wall and rushed outside to meet Lapis who was already waiting.

"What is it?" I asked, adjusting my coat.

"Sounds like Razor." he grunted. I nodded and swung myself onto his back. Laying low on his back, I hid myself until all you could see was the white of my fur coat and my spear by my side. And with me ready, Lapis ran off into the forest with Curans.

Another howl ripped through the forest as we ran towards the school. Although Angelica wasn't part of the pack, everyone felt a connection to her through her kindness and innocence.

"Razor!" I hissed when we reached the school gates. There was no reply. About to turn back, the sudden sound of the gates opening made us jump back. I settled back into Lapis' fur and waited for the approaching figure to arrive.

It was the headmistress, the only one besides Angelica who knew of my existence. I watched her carefully as she came forward with her graying hair pulled up in a tight bun and her grey dress fluttering in the wind.

"Dux, so glad you came. There has been an incident involving your sister and Razor won't let anyone near him." she stiffly said. I nodded and sat up slowly, fear gripping my heart at the thought that something happened to Angelica.

"What incident?" I asked carefully, gripping my spear tightly.

"Your sister, she has been chosen as the East King's son's bride."
