Life if full of surprises.

Damien Pov

I quickly strode through grand hallways, heading towards Kyle's room. It was time for the King and Prince to meet with the lords and assess the well-being of the kingdom and people.

I knocked on his door and waited for him to open the door. When a few minutes passed, I sighed in frustration and opened the door without permission. There he was, snoring his head off in bed. Decked in a silk top and bottom, I yanked off his blankets.

"Get up. You have a meeting with the lords and your father in ten minutes." I growled, forcefully pulling him off the bed. Kyle yawned and rubbed his face before rolling his eyes and turning to use the bowl of water to wash his face.

"Damien, have you checked on the girl?" he mumbled, wiping down his face with a towel. I sighed and turned to back out of his room. Why he didn't want to see his own future wife I would never know, but I still left to do his bidding.

"Be ready when I come and get you." I warned, looking over my shoulder to see him roll his eyes.

"Yes sir."

Knocking on the next door, I was met by a blonde beauty with baby blue eyes and a heart shaped face.

"Yes?" she asked hesitantly. I clenched my hat in my left hand and stiffly bowed my head slightly to here. She was the future queen.

"Madam, the Crown Prince Kyle wishes to ask how you were doing?" I asked. A gleam of anger flashed in her eyes and her delicate pink lips frowned.

"Well, tell that pompous arrogant arse that when he comes and asks me himself, perhaps I'll answer. And to release me from this forced marriage, then maybe he won't die when she comes!" she thundered, slamming the door in my face. I scowled at the door and rubbed my chin, feeling the five o'clock shadow coming in.

"How was it?" Kyle asked as I walked in. He was shaving his face in front of a mirror as he glanced over to me.

"She threatened us with mystery girl again." I muttered, sitting in one of the chairs laid out by his porch. Helping myself to a biscuit, I waited for Kyle to finish.

"I thought we were late." Kyle mused, washing his lower face. I grimaced and shrugged.

"We're already late. Better late than never."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I stood behind Kyle as the meeting progressed. Peasants and other nobles brought up ideas and problems within the kingdom, whether it was large or small, business or personal, Kyle and his father, Gavvin, took care of it.

However, you could tell that Kyle was the kinder and gentler one, easing up the harsh punishments that his father carried out.

Finally, for the last visitor of the day. The butler pushed open the great oak doors, signalling that the visitor was from out of the kingdom. I stood up taller and gripped my sword, ready for an encounter with whoever was behind the doors.

"Your Majesty, someone is here to see you concerning the matter of your son's future bride." the butler said, bowing before the king. King Gavvin scratched his beard before turning his attention back on the butler.

"Well, what's his name?" I heard the king bellowed, banging his fist on the armrest. The butler flinched and gazed at the other lords seated around the king and paused a moment on the prince. I knew that Kyle was looking at the man with pity. I snorted softly before nudging his shoulder. Kyle quickly ducked his head but not before scowling at me.

"Dux, the visitor's name is Dux." the butler hesitated before continuing, "He claims to be the alpha of the Crescent Pack."

A stony silence rang through the throne room and no one could seem to process the words of the butler. I raised an eyebrow at the words and snickered quietly. I looked around and saw that everyone was stunned into silence at the words of the butler.

"Bring this so called alpha in." I ordered, my authoritative voice echoing throughout the room. King Gavvin glared at me but turned away when I ignored him. I knew that we were going to have a talk later about stepping out of line of my general duties and disrespecting him. Before the butler reached the doors, it swung open on its own.

I swung my head when I heard the sounds of the massive oak doors being pushed open. I tensed and shuffled closer to the prince and tightened my hold on my sword.

The first thing that we all saw was the snarling face of a wolf. I heard the lords gasp before realizing that the wolf was a coat. I followed the coat to see thin but toned arms pushing the doors open. However, when the doors were fully opened, five giant white wolves trotted into the room, growling and snapping at the servants near the door. This time, the lords cried out and shot up from their chairs. I immediately stepped in front of Kyle and drew my sword, falling back into a defensive stance, ready to protect the crown prince. I relaxed however when the figure hissed something at the wolves and they returned to its side.

A spear was attached to the figure's back and I saw plenty of knives strapped to its waist. It still hadn't raised its head and seemed to be thinking.

"Sit down!" King Gavvin thundered, pounding his fist onto his chair, glaring at the lords around the room. The room slowly quieted down and all eyes remained on the figure still at the door with the five wolves by their side, baring their teeth at anyone who dared to move.

"Reveal yourself!" the king roared, eyes bulging from their sockets in anger and a hint of fear.

The figure's arms returned to their sides before the bent head of the so-called alpha raised. I was met with the coldest blue eyes I have ever seen and the purest white hair that looked like freshly fallen snow. However, what made everyone gasp was that it was not a man at the door. No, it was a woman.
