She is free in her wildness

she is a wanderess, a drop of free water

She knows nothing of borders

And cares nothing for rules or customs.

'Time' for her isn't something to fight against.

Her life flows clean, with passion, like fresh water.

Dux POV

The wind was in my hair, beating against me. I closed my eyes and leaned forward, pressing my face into the warm fur of Lapis, my beta. I opened my eyes to gaze to the right and saw Curans, my zeta running besides us, the rest of the hunting pack behind us. I smiled and silently willed Lapis to run faster, to release himself in the rush of the run.

"To the clearing." I mind-linked everyone. Growls and snarls notified me that everyone understood. We leaped over a stream. I clutched Lapis' fur with one hand as my other had a secure hold on my spear. As soon as we touched down on the other side, I gently nudged him with my knee, urging him to go left. Veering off the scent trail back to the rest of the pack, I left Curans instructions to care for the pack in my absence.

"Alpha, it is about her lunch time." Lapis growled underneath me. I squeezed his side to let him know I heard. We slowed to a trot as we came to a gravel pathway. Stopping right before the pathway, I slid off of Lapis' back and patted his massive head.

"Go, I'll run back." I softly said, smoothing the wrinkles that appeared in his snarl. I watched as he turned and started back towards the rest of the pack. Sighing, I removed my wolf hood and ran my fingers through my white hair.

I inhaled sharply and turned to began walking up the pathway until I reached a magnificent old stone castle. I read the sign in front, Ladies Academy. I let out a small howl through the gates and waited for a response. Once hearing it from within the castle, I gently placed the base of my spear against the ground as I leaned on it with both hands, waiting.

It wasn't long before I saw a white wolf and a young girl sprinting towards the gates to meet me.

"Dux! How are you? Where have you been this time?" the girl breathed out without a breath. I chuckled and gave her a small grin before reaching out to pet the wolf.

"So many questions as always. Hello Angelica. Hello Razor." I smirked. Razor respectfully lowered his head and I tapped it gently before smiling up at my young sister.

"The Great Ravine, that's where I went. To purify a group of demons that escaped the clutches of the Underworld." I answered Angelica. Her eyes widened in awe and she squealed before reaching out to grab my hand.

"You have to tell me everything. After all, it is your doing that I'm stuck in this stupid Ladies Academy and have no chance at an adventure." she retorted. I shook my head and sighed again.

"It was for your own good. You know that. Besides, you should be getting out soon, you're almost eighteen." I said. She rolled her eyes and gave my hand a squeeze.

It was silent for a while before she started to talk again.

"The ladies are throwing me a party. Maybe you can..." she trailed off at the look on my face.

I gave her a sad smile, "You know why I can't."

She nodded and gave me a grin.

"It was worth a try asking." she chirped, sadness threatening to spill out of her eyes. I frowned and placed my hand on her cheek before reaching into my pocket to remove something.

I hated that my identity had to be kept a secret. Angelica was already going through the lost of our mother and had no support from me. Looking at her crestfallen face, I decided to give my present early.

"It was meant for your birthday. But I think a couple days early is fine." I said, pulling out a crystal necklace. I had twines of silver circling the blue crystal shard and hung on a gold chain. Placing it in her hands, I watched the delight spread across her face.

"Thank you! It's so pretty!" she cheerfully said, examining the jewelry.

"It was Mother's. She wanted you to have it." I stated, gazing lovingly at the necklace. Angelica smiled and nodded, tracing the fine craftsmanship in her hands.

"I remember. It was her favorite. Thank you Dux, really. It means a lot." she said.

Loud bells interrupted our time together and Angelica stepped back. She glanced worriedly behind her and turned back towards me.

"I'm sorry. I have to go." she apologized. I nodded and stepped back from the gate that separated us.

"It's fine. Go and learn. I'll visit again soon." I said.

"Protect her." I mind-linked Razor. He nodded and gently nudged Angelica back towards the castle. I watched as her figure slowly disappeared back into the castle. I then turned around and took off towards the trees.

"Back to the pack." I muttered, picking up the pace, impatient to see my pack members.
