After we had danced Abby fell asleep and it was just Damon and I. I sat on the window seat and stared out onto the city below. It was sunset so the sky was orange and blue and so gorgeous. My view was distracted when I suddenly see a penny in my face.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Damon chuckled. I smiled and took the penny.
"Just thinking about Robert and my mom and moving out of that damn house. It's just.. I don't know scary I guess. I have to bury my mother and Robert might come after us!" I started to tear up.
"Hey, hey. Alex I know it's scary. I can't even imagine how you are feeling right now! I'm so sorry you're in this situation, you are so amazing, you don't deserve this!" He was raising his voice.
"Shhh it's okay Damon, I'm not going to be in that house anymore, I'll be with you who will protect me" I smiled and I swear he beamed at me. I heard a knock on the door and the nurse walked in with a small smile on her face. She glanced at Abby then looked at me and spoke.
"Abby's vitals are good enough for her to go home. But she is being prescribed some medication to help with some of the pain." She nodded
"Okay thanks nurse!" I beamed. The nurse left us and Damon smiled at me. "Will you watch her so I can go sign some paper work?" He nodded and I walked out behind the nurse. I followed her to the nurses station and they gave me the paperwork I needed. I finished signing and headed back to Abby's room. When I got back Abby was wide awake. I smiled and walked over.
"Hey baby guess who gets to go home?" My voice soft and her face looked a little glum.
"No no Abby I mean to Damon's place honey" her face instantly brightened up at the mention of Damon's name.
"Come on get ready to go. Let's get out of this hospital." I smiled at the both of them.
Abby quickly got changed and Damon was pulling the car around to get us. We walked out holding hands and Abby looked happy to get away from our stepfather, even though she never got the brunt of the hit she always being pushed around and yelled at. She lived in constant fear that I would be hurt and she would be left alone. Abby loved Mom but its not like Mom was ever around to help us or even call the police. Our stepfather convinced us that nobody would ever believe us and if we ever did call the police we would pay for it. When we got into Damon's car, our ears were filled with the soft melodies of George Strait. As we were driving to Damon's apartment I couldn't help but think how bad my life has been but I still got an amazing boyfriend... Wait. My boyfriend?! No, no I mean my BEST friend. I can not be having these thoughts. I mean I've known him since I was a child. Puberty hit Damon hard, and he always has to keep the sluts away. I mean Black hair that is always styled perfectly, blue eyes that a shark could get lost in. He always knows what to say to get a girl into bed, I'm sure he would be good in bed ;). NO STOP! I shouldn't be thinking this AT ALL!!!!
We pulled up to the apartment complex and Damon shook me to snap me out of my thought process. I smiled as I thought of our exciting new journey, just the three of us.
