Brandon's POV

The following week went better than my entire 17 years of life combined. For once I felt comfortable in my own skin and accepted. I had four out of four friends on my side and a girlfriend, and because of my girlfriend, I was no longer harassed everyday.

Abby was the highlight of everything. Every conversation we had was meaningful to me, whether it was about our English project or about a type of gum we enjoyed. When we had to go our separate ways, she always kissed me and I always enjoyed kissing her back.

I never thought having a girlfriend was going to be as great as having Abby. I didn't think I would ever feel the way I did- I didn't even think about having a first kiss- and I especially didn't think I would get more kisses afterwards.

Abby would tell me how she had been crushing on me since the start of the semester, and holy shit- HOLY SHIT- it was surreal. I felt bad for not noticing her and I wish I knew before hand, then we would be dating longer.

I wanted to spend as much time with her as possible. Which is why I pulled the stunt I'm about to explain.

It was Sunday morning, I had this sadness over me because I had to go to church, but I wanted to be with Abby.

I decided to pretend to be sick. This was a stunt that even Shane wouldn't pull. For school, sure, but for church- that was pure evil.

I stayed in bed until twelve o'clock, covered in as many blankets as I could find, overheating myself.

I poked my head out from the blankets when I heard my door open. I looked over and watched as my mother stepped in.

"Brandon, are you okay?" She asked.

I managed a realistic cough, "not really. I think I'm sick."

She put a hand over my forehead, "oh dear! You're burning up."

I coughed again, "do I-do I- really h-have to go to church?"

"Well- can you muster the strength to get up?"

I slowly sat up and crumbled. "N-no."

My mom gave me a concerned look, which gave me a guilty feeling in the pit of my stomach. She sighed, "okay Brandon, you can stay home and get some rest, we'll be back as soon as possible."

"Thanks, mom," I croaked.

She nodded and walked out of my room.

An hour later, I could hear them leaving.

"I'LL MAKE SURE TO PRAY FOR YOU, BRANDON!" Shane shouted, which was quickly followed by an "ow!" Which I assumed was the result of one of my parents flicking him.

My heart started to pound against my chest. I was really doing this.

I pulled the blankets off me as soon as I heard the car leave the driveway. I ran through the house and to the phone, quickly dialing Abby's number.

"Hi angel!" I blubbered as soon as I got to talk to her.

"Hi lil' flower," she responded then paused. "Aren't you supposed to be in church?"

"Yeah-" I giggled "-but I faked sick so I could talk to you."

She gasped, "you bad boy you!"

I smirked, "do you like that?"

She laughed, "you nerd- you're gonna get in so much trouble."

"It's worth it."

There was a long pause.
