The next morning rolled around, and the sound of my alarm went off. With a groan, I smacked my hand off of it to create silence. Soon going back into my deep sleep.
The curtains flung open and the bright rays of light shined in. I pulled my pillow over my head to block the sun. "Rebecca, it's time for school get up." I lifted the pillow opening my one eye seeing my dads figure heading towards the door. "Uhhg, It's too early." I murmured letting out a yawn and a stretch in my warm covers. "Well, that's to bad, get up. You don't want to be late." I gave a heavy sigh to my dad's statement as he left.
Finally becoming more awake.
Rolling out of bed, I slowly walked to my closet where I stood aimlessly at my clothes. It was fall after all, and today seemed like sweater weather. I tapped my finger on the side of my face as I examined my sweaters, grabbing a long sleeved baggy knitted sweater and black tights. I walked to my mirror where I played with my hair in different styles until throwing it into a very messy bun with strands hanging down and some framing my face.
Of course, I did my normal makeup style, satisfied with the way I looked. Not that I really cared. I was far too tired to even do much effort.
I was surprised to not feel the cold presence of a familiar ghost. But it was a relief that I didn't have to be startled by her in any way. Walking down the stairs into the kitchen I saw my dad finish making his coffee, and holding a cup of tea in his other hand which he made for me no doubt.
"Here, there's bagels and other things in the fridge. I got to go I'm running behind." He noted, walking up to me as he gave me a hug and kiss on the head. "Have a good day sweetheart, hopefully, I'll see you tonight if I don't have to stay late."
"Sure thing dad, have a good day," I replied with a smile as I took the warm cup from his hand. I gave a wave before turning to the fridge to look through it. Bagels and strawberry cream cheese seemed to be on the menu for breakfast.
Hearing the door close, I sat at the counter one leg over the other as I ate. Seeing the newspaper from today I grabbed it and straightened it. The main page caught my attention the most.
Local Man Killed By Animal Attack.
My eyebrows shifted in confusion as to what animal could have caused such an act. It was rare for wild animals to attack people unless they had a damn good reason. But the column didn't explain too much except that an older man was scratched to death and had consistent bite marks all over his body. Found in the ditch just outside of Hemlock near Peters trailer.
That was definitely a red flag for Peter, who knew what the cops would say to him or accuse him of. It hasn't been the first time he was framed for murder.
The knot in my stomach tightened, could it really have been an animal? Either way, it could be something to bring up to Peter and Roman. It seemed like this typical area was something that those two would know more about.
Finishing my tea and a small meal, I looked at the time and it was 8:15. It was a good idea to start walking now just so I wouldn't be behind.
As I walked to the door I pulled on my boots, and wrapped a scarf around my neck, putting on my coat. Taking a deep breath, mentally preparing myself for another day of hell. I stepped outside locking the door behind me and soon heading on my way.
The walk had been peaceful and silent. My hands were kept in my pockets turning my head to a car that was following behind me.
"Need a lift?" I heard Roman's voice call out to me as he pulled up beside me. I looked to Roman with a slight shake of my head and a small exhale "stalking me now?" I joked to him, as he gave a shrug to what I had said: "Wouldn't find the fun in that." He noted duly.
