This is a very subtle piece of evidence, but it really is more relevant than most people would think. It shows that Thomas wants to be kind to Newt. He wants to make a good impression on him, making him like him. Some people may argue that it means nothing since he mentions both Newt and Alby, but that is not true. He mentions Alby because Alby is the leader and he doesn't want to get in trouble again, but Newt is a kinder soul so this would not be the case with this.
This chapter has been moderately successful, and as we have begun our research for the next chapter, we are very inspired to continue this project, as it has much interaction between Newt and Thomas.
