Trope: Vampire Lover

Angel and Vincent

It had been some time since Vincent had seen a sunset, but watching Angel in her element was just as hypnotizing. The beauty was unmatched. The grace in her movements, the way her body swayed had his mind wandering back to that night in the motel room. That was almost two months ago, but it plagued his every thought-every dream. Had it been affecting her as much as it was him? Unlike all the times before, Vincent hadn't left town, he'd stayed, watching over her. What was it about this time that was so different? Why was he incapable of leaving?

Staying in the shadows, he observed her as she exited the stage for the last time tonight; she'd done well...even though he didn't like the onslaught of hungry eyes she received. It almost made his fangs protrude thinking about the sinister men that had been shamelessly fucking her with their eyes the second she started dancing. But he supposed that was the premise. He hated what she did for a living, but who was he to tell her anything? He had no ground to stand on, and why would he? Two months ago, he told her they would never see each other again, but here he was, unable to stay away from this particular mortal.

"V?" His eyes snapped to hers; shock painted her face with something else he couldn't quite decipher. Fuck, he had been so lost in his own mind he completely forgot to leave before she came back out! Her raven hair cascaded down her back, face devoid of makeup with just a hint of glitter that really made her look ethereal. Angel's duffel was slung over her shoulder, contrasting with her pink puffy jacket that was unzipped in the front to showcase her figure beneath. She approached him slowly, as if he would disappear if she moved to quickly. Once she was close enough, she wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug, and he couldn't resist the chance to feel her again. He stroked her hair and marveled at its softness, his heart aching when she nuzzled her face into his chest. "I've missed you," she sighed. If it weren't for his supernatural hearing, he wouldn't have known what she said over the music. Angel pulled back and blinked-this had to be a dream of some kind. He was here...after everything he'd said. "We should really talk; I don't live far...my car is in the lot."

Vincent followed her out and watched several groups of men scatter once they realized she had company. Disgusting. The car ride was silent, neither of them knowing what to say. Angel tried her best to calm her roaring heartbeat-no doubt Vincent could hear it, but there wasn't much she could do at this point. He had told her they were parting ways, never to see each other again, but there he had stood in the club, and something told her it wasn't for the first time. She'd catch glimpses of him here and there, but when she looked back, he was always gone. All this time she had convinced herself it was just her mind playing tricks on her, but now, she wasn't so sure.

Angel pulled in front of her apartment gate, punching in the code with slightly trembling fingers. Why was he here? Why had she offered to take him to her home? Why did he come with her? Was he going to leave forever this time?

"I can hear your thoughts racing," he said, tilting his head up to look at the ceiling of the car, "I'll answer all your questions if I can." She nodded and parked in front of her unit, turning the car off.

"Was this the first time you've been back to the club after that night?"

Vincent paused and swallowed before answering, his Adam's apple bobbing. "No."

So she had seen him! "How many other times?"

"Many," he sighed, "usually once a night...to see how you were doing." He was keeping his answers short, and she wondered just how much she was really going to get from him? The look on his face made it seem like he was almost ashamed of visiting her.

"You never had to leave in the first place, you know?" She shifted in her seat, facing him. Look at me, she begged, please

"Let's continue this conversation inside," he hurried, opening his door to step out. She sighed and turned towards the door handle, but it was already open with Vincent waiting on the other side. He held out his hand for her which she took, feeling the familiar fireworks erupt on her skin. Did he feel this way too? Angel unlocked the apartment and held the door open, but Vincent stood still. "You have to invite me in."
