I laid on the bed dreaming of the beach the sand in my toes the wind in my hair the waves crashing. Cough. Cough. A man beside me was smoking the smoke filled my lungs making it hard to breathe I started to feel dizzy. I woke to smoke continuing to fill my lungs I wheezed hoping for fresh air my bedroom was misty I crawled on the floor searching for the door. Finally I found it bright red flames crawled up the floor behind me it was a fire I finally found the door reaching for the handle. I noticed a neon orange lock on the door I gasped again I could have tried to break the door or even the lock but I was desperate I went straight for the window. Crawling out onto the roof I had done this many times before being a teenage girl slowly sliding down the gutter a stepping on to the main floor window sill. I peered in to see bright orange flames filling the whole house I walked a few feet then lied on the ground terrified and being thankful for clean air but my family was still inside I needed to find them. I had a little brother Jack he is only 4 then there was my mother who raised 2 kids all alone in a small house my father left us when I was 11 so four years ago. I stood up trying to get my balance back once I was steady I searched for my phone in my pocket. I pulled it out but it was totally damaged so I couldn't call the fire department I tossed it on the ground then started sprinting. We live on a house far, far out in the country with no houses with in 10km from here so I don't think anyone else would see the fire and call so it was me left to the rescue. I pried the front door open taking a deep breath of air before going into the smoke. I kneeled down crawling once again to see Jack crying a the top of the stairs his eyes filled with glee to see me. He ran down the stairs I motioned for him to crawl and he followed orders as directed. I pulled him outside telling him to stay where he was. As I went back into the house his eyes filled with fear and another tear ran down his face that made me shiver. I had to focus though I ran back into the house crawling noticing the neon orange locks on other doors too. The flames got higher I was trapped my only choice was to get out of the house and hope Mother would be okay and find a way out herself. I ran out hugging jack trying to put up brave face I heard a scream it was my mom on the roof I grabbed a ladder leaning against the shed and placed it against the roof. She crawled down with fear in her eyes shaking like crazy. My heart instantly starting pounding even harder now it was like it was in my throat. I forced myself to walk to grab the first aid kit from the shed I looked but it had another neon orange lock on it what were they?
