CHAPTER ONE: VALERIA
"DON'T EAT THAT!" My best friend shrieked just as the Snicker bar touched my lips.
"Why the hell not?" I rolled my eyes and slumped in my seat, letting the bar dangle from my slender fingers.
"Do you KNOW how many calories that contains?" Violet demanded. "Two hundred seventy eight calories!" She exclaimed dramatically when I ignored her, my eyes focusing on the chocolatey goodness in the palm of my hand.
In junior year, when I became the cheerleading captain, Violet made a forty five minute video about carbs and fat and all that good stuff and how I shouldn't eat it. I fell asleep ten minutes in and dreamt of food.
"So?" Samantha interrupts, stuffing her face with her delicious junk food.
"Vi, one chocolate won't make much of a difference." I agree, nodding enthusiastically, grateful that Sam (one of my closest friends) stood up on my behalf.
"So, it's disgusting!" Violet says in a duh tone, but I knew that Violet was secretly jealous of how we got to eat as much as we wanted. Violet's mother is a health nut, so she rarely gets to eat any type of food that has too much sugar. This discussion goes on for about two more minutes until Violet finally lets me eat the chocolate. Which I don't really need her permission for, but I didn't want to make a scene over a stupid chocolate bar in the middle of the cafeteria!
Just as I'm about to take a bite, Ashton pops out of nowhere. Ashton grins at me lovingly, wrapping his arm around my waist and kissing my cheek, causing me to unconsciously smile and pop the chocolate in my mouth. "Ashton, stop. Everybody's staring," I giggled, shoving him away playfully.
Ashton and I met in freshman year. He was the first freshman to get on our school's football team in a damn long time and I was the youngest cheerleader in our team. The rest is history. We're pretty much the It couple. Although a year into our relationship, I caught him cheating on me. Let's just say the other woman disappeared a little while after the incident. I forgave him, I lost my virginity to him after all, and we have many good memories together. Also, I just can't ruin our reputation no matter how dejected I felt. I always wondered why he cheated...am I not good enough for him?
"Hi, beautiful." Ashton kissed my neck lightly in greeting.
"Ew." Sam muttered under her breath as she stuffed an Oreo in her mouth and started chewing it violently.
Violet just rolled her eyes and put her cubed cheese back on her plate. "Oh, look who it is!" Violet squeals and a few people to turn to us curiously. We all directed our attention to where Violet pointed at. My eyes zeroed in on Farah Collifare, also known as the school's nerd. Let me tell you now, Violet Quinn is one of the best people you'll ever meet, but she can be a major bitch sometimes. For example...right now. Violet stood up from her chair and dragged me with her, heading to where Farah sat down reading a novel in her usual table next to the garbage.
Yes, our school's a cliche. It is how it is.
"Well if it isn't the little whore." Vi sneered and by now everyone in the cafeteria was staring at us. I loathed Violet when she acted this way, she says she does it so people don't think of us as weak but I think it just scares people off.
