Chapter 6
It is a good thing that I still hadn’t fully adjusted to California time or we would have been so completely busted. The positions we were in when I woke up could have lead to some very suggestive, and unnecessary topics.
I jolted awake. It was still pretty dark in the basement. I slid my phone out of the pocket in my pants trying so carefully not to wake up Landon who was asleep practically on top of me. Half of her torso and head was on my chest, her left arm was slung over my stomach, and her left leg was over my left leg, in between my other leg.
I guess this could be taken as, “They fell asleep talking and just happened to end up this way.” Or it could be taken as, “What the frick did they do, that they ended up in that position?!” The first assumption is the closest to the truth but how would they ever know that? What real proof would I have to plead my case?
My iPhone’s light nearly blinded me to death as I hit the center button that shone the time: 7:32. I was so lucky that not a single person in this house awoke before 8 am at the earliest, and that not adjusting so quickly had come in handy.
“Landon?” I didn’t want to scare the shit out of her trying to wake her up. I ran my fingers through her tousled golden hair and whispered, “We need to get upstairs before everyone wakes up.” I removed my hand from her soft hair and started to rub her back, like my mom used to do when she needed me to get up for school when I was little. Landon moved and she scooted up a little pouting her lips, some of her hair getting in my mouth, moaning and groaning.
If someone were upstairs and they heard whispering and moaning…. Oh sweet baby Jesus, would we be, for lack of a better term, totally fucking screwed.
“Lan, you need to wake up.”
Her eyes fluttered open, as hard as I tried, she still flipped a shit.
“Oh my fudging god, what time is it?” She pushed herself off of me leaving the place where she slept on me suddenly got cold and felt completely uninhabited. “Why is it so dark? I hate the dark. Alex…can you turn on a light or something I can’t see a foot in front of me.” I didn’t respond, I wanted to see what would happen. Is that mean?
“Alexander Heart, turn on a light this instant!” I could tell that she crossed her arms over her chest, and she proceeded to speak to me like a parent who was disciplining her child.
She quickly dropped the act and crouched down again, her face less than three inches from mine. I guess my eyes had already adjusted to the darkness and hers hadn’t, I don’t think she realized how close she was. So I held my breath.
“Please Alex…the dark…we are in the basement right...I can’t see a thing.” She had her arm out to her left side trying to feel her way around her. I hit my phone button and it lit both of us up right as she touched my cheek.
Landon nearly jumped out of her skin when the light went on and she discovered that our noses were nearly touching and she was holding my face. She squeaked, an adorable, little, frightened, squeak/squeal.
