Chapter Five: Sharing My Secret

Katherine had been spending alot of time with Stefan, leaving me all alone in the giant mansion with the servants. Plus I hadn't gotten one moment alone with her to tell her about George and Guippie's plan.

I was walking around the garden and found Katherine and Stefan alone sitting on a bench. I hid close enough to hear them talking.

"You special to me Stefan. I've begun to feel more about you." I heard her say.

"I feel the same." I heard him speak. I felt a small crack in my heart. They both loved us.

"I must go. I'll be back soon." I saw her get up, but not before placing a kiss on his lips.

I waited for her to leave before I approached Stefan.

"Stefan." I called. He turned his to me and smiled widely.

"Kataline." He sighed. I sat next to him.

"How have you been? With Damon gone and everything." I ask.

"I've been okay. I just know that he'll be back soon. What about you?" He asked.

"I've been... lonely." I said honestly. "I haven't talked to anyone in a week at least. I missed you." I said. He smiled.

Something about that smile made me feel like I could tell him anything. That's when I got the idea. Could I trust him with my secret? Only one way to find out. I took a deep breath before looking into his eyes.

"If I tell you something, do you promise to never tell a soul?" I asked placed my hands onto his.

"Of course." He responded taking my hands in his.

"See this necklace? It keeps me alive. A witch crafted it so I could live along side my sister." I started. I didn't want to tell him my sisters setect so I twisted it a bit. "I was very sick, about to die. My sister searched everywhere for a witch that could help me. She found one and I was cured. As long as I keep this on I may live as long as I please. But I stay in this form. I don't know if I'll ever be able to grow old like a human. But I am a human, just stuck in time." I finished.

His eyes were wide, processing everything I had just told him. He didn't look into my eyes for minutes. When he did they were filled with sadness.

He hugged me. "I'm so sorry this happened to you. You don't deserve to be stuck in time."

I breathed a huge sigh of relief and hugged him back.

"So you believe me?" I asked. He held my face in his hands.

"I'll always believe you." He said holding my hand. I smiled and hugged him tightly.

"Thank you. It feels good to let that off of my chest." I say before letting go.

My eyes stay connected to his before I see a familiar uniformed man in the distance walking towards us.

"Damon?" I whispered standing up. I gasped as he got closer. It was him.

And then I ran. I ran all the way to his open arms as he held me in a strong embrace, swinging me around.

"Oh Kataline, I missed you." I smiled hearing that.

"I missed you too." I said as he put me down.

Stefan had finally caught up and embraced his brother in a big hug.

"Good to see you alive brother." Stefan said. Damon chuckled.

"Glad to be alive." He replied.

"Come on boys, let's go find Katherine."

That night we had a dinner to celebrate the return of Damon from war. Unfortunately their father did not join us. I hoped I could speak to Katherine about what I had heard a few nights ago. Soon enough dinner ended and we all stood up. I was about to get Katherine alone when someone put a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see the beautiful blue eyes I had missed.

"Yes, Damon?"

"I need to talk to you." I watched my sister walk away with Stefan.

"Alright."

He held his arm out that I took before walking outside with him. A few moments later we stopped at a grave.

"This is my mother's grave. She's been dead since I was 10." I heard Damon say.

"Oh Damon, I'm truly sorry." I looked into his eyes. Sadness filled his once bright blue eyes.

"We've both lost someone we love. It's natural in life." He said as a tear fell.

"Not when your family was murdered by a emotionless vampire." I mumbled. Gladly he didn't hear it.

"Don't worry. I feel you won't die until your ready. When you've lived a long life. Filled with love, life, adventure." I spoke. More tears ran down his face.

I wiped his tears then rested my hands onto his shoulders.

"That sounds like the life I want to live. The life I want with you." My heart felt warm once those words left his lips. I leaned in and our lips touched, before I felt a sharp pain in my back.

I groaned in pain, holding onto Damon tightly.

"Kataline?! What's happening?!." His worried voice wanted me to tell him everything was okay. But I knew what was happening. They were burning the vampires. Tonight.

"Damon. Look at me." I turned his face to mine before I blacked out. "Your father is burning all of the vampires. They think I am one. Don't try to save me. It'll be okay." I finnally got the strength to lower his face and I kissed him, like really kissed him. "I love you. Hold onto that." And then it all went dark.

I woke up to the voices of pained vampires. I was chained up and my mouth was locked in. Beside me I saw my sister, her eyes were frightened. She shool her head.

You shouldn't be here! I heard her say through my mind.

It's alright Katerina. I'd rather be with you to die than morn about you. I grabbed her hand. She tightly squeezed mine.

I never wanted any of this for you. I had everything planned out. She spoke. My eyes went wide.

You planned this?! I was shocked. The carriage went to a sudden stop. Keys jingle and the rusty door opens.

My eyes go wide once I seen the blue eyes I'd seen before going black.

Both Stefan and Damon pulled us out, struggling to free us. Stefan finally freed me and I hugged him. I wasn't going to die today. I helped Damon free Katherine before a gun was shot and Damon fell down. I screamed and looked at Damon. His face was already cold. I saw Stefan grab a gun, tears in his eyes, but was suddenly sit as well. I screamed once more. Two people I love had already died. I looked at Katerina. She said one word to me.

"Run."

And that's what I did. I started running. Not far for I was shot in the chest. I fell onto my knees first, hearing the scream of my sister, calling out my name. I finally fell onto the ground and heard my sisters screams.

I love you Kataline. I'll see you soon." Is all I remember before going black once more.
