The orange-pink hue of the sunset spilled over the Pune skyline as we drove back home. Veer had one hand on the steering wheel and the other intertwined with mine. The silence wasn’t awkward—it was comforting. Like warm soup on a rainy day.
“You tired, lotus?” he asked, glancing sideways.
“Just a little… but my heart’s full,” I replied, playing with his fingers. He smiled softly.
We reached home, and the aroma of incense mixed with evening air. Adi was already waiting on the balcony with two cups of chai. He raised one cup dramatically like he was in a movie, “Welcome, my dear bhai and balikavadhu! How was your date?”
“Magical,” I whispered under my breath and gave him tapli for calling me balika vadhu, Veer just shook his head and ignored us.
---
Later that night, Adi dragged us to a small hilltop café—his so-called “secret spot.” There were fairy lights, soft Marathi songs playing, and surprisingly only a few people. We sat on a floor mattress under the stars.
I leaned back, Veer’s arm around my shoulders, while Adi told him stories about our college. Few were so embarrassing but those are ours so we laugh out loud on those.
Veer suddenly pulled out a small velvet pouch and placed it on my palm.
“What’s this?” I asked.
“Open it,” he said simply.
Inside was a small silver Payal (anklet), delicate and engraved with my name.
“So little birdie told me that my queen loves payal, and I saw you look at them at market, so I got her one. You see my queen deserves and gets everything she likes.”
My eyes welled up. This man... he doesn’t just listen to my words. He listens to my silences.
“I don’t need a crown, Veer. Just you,” I whispered, hugging him tight.
“Ok guys, just letting you know I am also here and single as hell. So can please stop making me jealous!” Adi whined from the side. I came out from Veer’s embrace and just show him tongue and just to irritate him more snuggled into Veer, he just kissed my head and hold me tight.
“Get use to it Buddy” Veer said in a very smug tone and I just laughed.
“Ok guys continue your PDA, I am going home”, Adi said and stood up.
“Hey Adu, we were just teasing you” I said immediately.
“Arey baba I know, but nature’s call also important. Can’t ignored it, brb cuties”, saying this Adi went towards restroom.
“Idiot! How do you even keep up with his madness?” Veer said laughing.
“Teeda hai par mera hai, you know he is my one and only bestfriend, all chaos and stupidity but I wouldn’t ask otherwise” I said remembering all our time together.
We lay on the terrace, wrapped in a blanket. The stars scattered above like confetti thrown by the universe.
“I want to buy a house here someday,” he said.
“Where?” I asked.
“Anywhere you’re standing.”
I smiled. My heart was bursting, but instead of speaking, I just pulled out my phone and clicked a candid picture of him staring at the sky.
“New wallpaper,” I teased.
We both laughed, and then silence again, only this time it was louder than any words.
---
Adi returned and we decided to take a long drive. We had our car concert, by which I mean us singing or yelling Honey Singh’s and old bluetooth era songs out loud. We returned home with exhausted and heart full. Adi went to his room and we went to ours, Veer was humming a song under his breath. I recognized it—“Kadhi tu” again. The same melody from Sinhagad.
“You’ve been humming that all day,” I teased.
He looked at me, eyes deep and voice low, “It reminds me of you. Sometimes soft like a drizzle, sometimes wild like a storm. But always… always mine.”
“All yours” I smiled and kissed him softly. We changed into our nightwear and Veer pulled me into his arms.
“I don’t want to leave you but, I have to go tomorrow morning. I have to complete my work before you guys come to Jaipur.” he said like a child.
“I am sorry baby, because of me you have to come here, leaving work and all, I feel so stupid” I said tears pooling in my eyes, I genuinely regret my actions.
“Hey! You there is nothing stupid here, you come first before anything and everything, work can wait. Please don’t cry my lotus” he said whipping my tears.
I kissed him immediately, overwhelmed by his words and action. I am his priority and he is willing to leave everything for me that means world to me. I am blessed with the best.
We slept cuddling each other. At 7 am Veer woke me up saying he will leave in half an hour. I quickly got freshened up. He was done with breakfast by then. I wanted to accompany till the airport but refused because of paparazzis.
“Come soon to me, Mrs Rathore.” he said voice heavy with emotions.
“Very soon, Mr Rathore.”saying this I kissed him bye, not goodbye, never goodbye.
