It started the day Seungmin smiled at him.

Not just a regular smile, no. It was one of those smiles. The kind that makes your heart hiccup, your lungs forget how to function, and your brain go:

"Shit. No. Not him. Anyone but him."

Chan had felt a twinge in his chest.
A flutter. A spark. A-

"NOPE. Not today, Satan."

He immediately dropped and did twenty push-ups in the middle of the studio.

"Hyung... are you okay?" Seungmin had asked, genuinely concerned.

Chan's response?

"Just felt the need to battle some gay thoughts. I mean- core strength! Strengthening my core! For leadership!"

Seungmin blinked. "Riiight..."

From there, it got worse.

He started noticing things. Stupid things.

Like the way Seungmin's hair curled when he showered, Or how his nose scrunched when he laughed too hard, Or how he smelled like clean laundry and quiet affection.

Chan spiraled.

He googled "how to stop being in love with your emotionally distant group member who roasts you for sport" at least 6 times.

He tried everything:

Ice baths.

Blasting metal music.

Writing angsty lyrics at 3am with a candle lit like it was a séance.

Even trying to flirt with Hyunjin once just to "test his settings."

(It did not go well. Hyunjin called him "mother" and asked for rice.)

The final straw came when Chan walked into the kitchen one night, tired and disheveled from producing, only to find Seungmin sitting on the counter in sweatpants, no shirt, glasses on, eating peaches straight from the can.

"Want some?" he offered, holding the can out.

Chan had short-circuited. Entire internal monologue went:

Oh no.
He looks like domesticity.
He looks like the rest of my life.
I'm so screwed.
I want to kiss him and then marry him and then kiss him again-
Wait no. Rewind. Abort mission.
STRAIGHT THOUGHTS. THINK STRAIGHT THOUGHTS.

"Y-you're not using a fork," Chan blurted.

Seungmin raised an eyebrow. "Do you want me to?"

Chan blinked. "No. I mean. Yes. I mean- FOR SANITARY REASONS-"

"Hyung. Just say it."

Chan's eye twitched. "Say what?"

"That you like me."

The silence was so loud.

Chan stood there, halfway between fight and flight, and just stared.

Then finally, he whispered, like he was confessing a war crime:

"...I might be in love with you."

Seungmin popped another peach into his mouth.
"Cool. Wanna kiss me or keep twitching like a fried SIM card?"

Chan walked over and kissed him.

[Back in Present Time]

"Wait," Jisung said, staring at Chan like he'd grown a second head, "So your entire denial arc started because Seungmin smiled at you?"

Chan nodded solemnly. "He smiled at me like I was worth smiling at."

"Dude."

"Bro."

"HYUNG."

Minho was already pulling out his wallet. "I owe so many people money for betting on you two."

Chan shrugged and smiled. "What can I say? I'm a slow burn."

"Slow burn?" Seungmin said, raising an eyebrow.
"You burned so slow you set off the emotional fire alarm a year after we all shipped us."

Chan sighed dreamily. "But it was worth the wait, right?"

Seungmin rolled his eyes and kissed his cheek. "Only because you're cute."

Hyunjin fake gagged in the background. "I need holy water and a therapist."
