Jason's POV

"I'm happy to tell you that your home is safe enough for Lily to stay." The social worker said.

"That's wonderful news." Mum said, cheerfully.

"Thank you so much." I said. The social worker smiled at me.

"Your welcome." She said and walked out the door.

I was so happy. Lilly could finally live with us. Live with me. Could it get any better.

"Go on Jason. Ring her." Mum said, smiling.

"Can we surprise her? Have a small party to welcome her home?" I asked

"Of course. I will plan everything. We will ring Katlin and let her know. You make up an excuse for her to come round tomorrow." My dad said.

"Ok." I ran upstairs to my room.

As I was about to call her, my phone rang.

I decided to sound grumpy so she wouldn't expect anything.

"Hello." I said.

"Hey Jason. Sorry I didn't answer my phone earlier. Are you okay?" She asked.

"It's okay and yeah, I'm fine. How are your legs? Getting better?" I asked.

"Yeah, I can almost walk without my crutches now. The wonders of stiches." I laughed.

"Yeah."

"How is the house checking going?" She asked

"Not bad. Although there was an incident with a piece of Lego. I won't go into it. Let's just say Leo needs to pick up his toys when he's finished playing with them." Another lie.

She giggled.

"I have to go now. I have a 5,000 word assessment due tomorrow. Your lucky you don't have to go to school at the moment." I lied.

"Not really, I reckon I'm going to be very bored tomorrow, with everyone at school." She said, slightly annoyed.

"Maybe I could see you tomorrow then?"

"What about your assessment and school?" She asked, sounding confused.

"I'll just play the 'I'm not very well card.' Mum always falls for it." Another lie. Mum never falls for it.

"Ok. I will ask Katlin tomorrow."

"I love you Lilly." I said

"I love you too Jason."

"Bye."

I cut the call.

That night I went to sleep smiling.

The next day.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
10:00AM
I woke up smiling and quickly got dressed. I couldn't wait to pick Lilly up and bring her home.
I ran downstairs stairs and saw balloons strung up around the living room and kitchen. Huge multicolored banners were stretched across the ceiling with "Welcome Home" written on them.
I spotted my Mum and Dad and Leo sat at the kitchen table eating bacon and scrambled eggs.
"Wow mum, you've really out done yourself!" I said while grabbing a plate of food, instantly digging in.
"Lilly is about to become a member of this family and I intend to give her a lovely warm welcome." My mum said, smiling.
"Your mum is right. Lilly deserves it, after everything she's been through." My dad said.
"Yeah, she does." I replied, finishing my plate.
After a few seconds of awkward silence, I said, "I'll go and get her now," and walked out the front door.
I jumped into my truck and drove down to the home.
As soon as I arrived, I saw her, sitting on the front steps, with no crutches.
I got out the car and shut the door.
"No crutches." I said excited as I pulled her in for a hug.
"I know! I was going to tell you last night, but I wanted to keep it as a surprise." She said, smiling up at me.
"Let's go home." I said, grabbing her hand and pulling her towards the car.
"Home?" She asked confused.
The front door opened and Katlin stepped out with Lilly's bag.
"What's going on?" She walked towards Katlin.
"Why don't you go with Jason to find out." She replied, pulling Lilly into a hug.
I grabbed her bag and put it in the car.
"You're welcome to come back at any time Lilly, we've all loved having you here." As she said this, the door opened again to reveal the kids, waving and saying goodbye.
Lilly looked back at me, a knowing smile on her face.
"Jason." She walked back to me.
"Yes Lilly?" I replied smirking.
"Am I coming home? For good?"
Lilly's POV
He nodded and pulled me in for another hug.
And with that he took me back to his house. He become my husband and the father of my children.
For once in my life, I felt loved and cared for. I was crashed into a life of abuse and neglect but I was saved.
