Terry Fox (1958-1981), a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist, is a household name in the country of Canada due to the Marathon Of Hope, an initially planned across-the-nation run that was cut short in Thunder Bay, Ontario due to the cancer, which he was diagnosed with such in 1980; leading in one of his legs to be amputated, and how it heavily embarked awareness for cancer research. As of September 2024, $900 million Canadian dollars have been raised through the Terry Fox Research Institute.
