Chapter 6
When I saw the freaking private jet, I couldn't keep my mouth closed. My eyes widened and all I could do was stare at the sleek, small plane. It was standing in the far left of the Tarmac where no other planes were. I saw other huge planes, some JetBlue, some Delta, taking off in the distance.
I felt a tap on my shoulder. Turning, I found myself staring into Blake's deep blue eyes. I cleared my throat uncomfortably.
"Listen, I know all you want to do is drool over my private jet all day, but the trip to California is six hours," Blake said in a painfully bored tone. It seemed like he was forcing himself to say what he did, which was weird. I mean, last time I checked, most people didn't make themselves insult others. I wondered what his deal was.
Nonetheless, he took out his iPhone 5 and he got out of the limo without a glance back, slamming the door behind him. He yelled for the limo driver.
"Where are my suitcases? And why didn't you open the door for me? Do you want me to report you?" He yelled at poor, red faced Bruce.
From the window, I saw Bruce shaking his head fervently in fright as he muttered his apologies. My eyes narrowed in distaste. Although Blake seemed like he wasn't a total jerk, he had no right to treat others that way.
I slowly opened the heavy door and climbed out. Squinting in the blinding sunlight, I stretched my limbs. I also let a small yawn slip past my lips.
There wasn't a cloud in the sky, although there were quite a few planes. It didn't seem like there would be a delay for the weather.
That reminded me of what happened a few years ago when my flight got delayed due to torrential downpour on my way back to Florida with my dad and my sister. The flight was delayed for a whopping five hours. At the three hour point, people were starting to get really grumpy.
My dad, being the helping, caring guy that he was, announced to our gate that I was going to sing to them. He reminded me of one of those hosts in tuxedos for the Grammys.
So I sang whatever came to mind. They were mostly songs from musicals like Wicked and Mary Poppins. It sure cheered people up a ton and dubbed their boredom. Ever since then, my dad wanted me to be a singer and told me that I could cheer even Ebeneezer Scrooge up with my Broadway-like aura when I'm on stage. He said that if I put my heart in it, I could be whatever I wanted.
While I was smiling at the bitter-sweet memories of my late father, Bruce rushed over to me with my suitcases and propped them down next to me. He looked flustered and thoroughly frightened. I blinked in surprise as he took out a white handkerchief and dapped his sweaty forehead. That made me pity him even more.
"I'm so sorry I didn't get the door for you, miss. I wasn't thinking..." He rambled, giving me apology after apology. He kept bringing his hand up to his temples and ruffling his short brown hair. I raised my eyebrow.
"Bruce! Chill out! It's fine! I can open the door on my own," I said slowly, emphasizing the 'on my own' part. Bruce seemed completely lost. He opened and closed his mouth a few times before rushing over to Harold. Poor, simple minded Bruce.
"Olivia!" Harold called. "Time to get in the jet!"
He shook hands with Bruce and motioned for me to come over. I nodded and attempted to wheel my suitcases over to where they were standing. They bumped roughly against the concrete as I pulled with all my might.
When I staggered the thirty feet to where my companions were standing, I let go of my suitcases and let out a deep breath. God, my arms hurt!
