Chapter 11
"Nicole!" I screamed as the twelve year old sent a wave of water at me, stinging my eyes. My hands shot up to block the excessive amounts of chlorinated water she was splashing at me.
Nicole laughed merrily. "Catch me if you can!" She yelled.
With a few powerful kicks, she was under the clear water, swimming the freestyle to the other end of the pool. That left me with even more water in my eyes, ears, and mouth. Even though Nicole looked scrawny, she was some sort of torpedo in the water.
Flipping my soggy hair over my shoulder, I took after her. I slapped the water desperately and kicked as hard as I could, occasionally picking my head up for air. The cool water felt good against my skin as the late June sun beat down on us.
Nicole reached the wall way before me. She giggled as I picked my head up, gasping for air when I got to the wall.
"I give up! You're too fast for me!" I wailed dramatically, flailing my arms for emphasis. Spitting out some water from my mouth, I rested my elbow against the side of the pool.
Nicole's eyes twinkled as she took her dark locks from the ponytail. She shook her head frantically like a dog, slapping me with her wet hair.
"I'm gonna swim some laps now," she stated abruptly and sprang back into action.
Chuckling, I began to do the breast stroke to the ladder, which was at the other end of the pool. As my head submerged under the water, I smiled and I felt as if I was flying. Picking my head up, I took a deep breath and prepared to go back under.
All of a sudden, I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around my waist in the middle of swimming. I was pulled underwater before I had a chance to yelp in surprise.
Holding my breath and turning around, I opened my eyes underwater and saw, through my blurry vision, a mop of black hair. A pair of eyes, a bit darker then the water, twinkled at me. They slowly inched closer. My eyes widened even more as I felt Blake's hands grasp my face like Ryan had on my roof just two weeks ago.
Before my mind could process anything, his lips came crashing down on mine. For a few seconds, we somehow managed to stay below the surface, our lips moving in sync. I did feel a weird feeling in my stomach, but not the sparks that Ryan's kiss caused. Blake's arms wrapped around the small of my back.
After I finally processed the turn of events, my hands shot up to his hair, which felt soft underwater. Wrapping them around his hair, I pulled Blake away from me and brought my knee up to his bare chest. Then, I kicked up to the surface, my lungs burning.
Our heads poked out of the water at the same time. Gasping for air, I started to tread water in the deep pool. I turned to Blake with a mix of fury and incredulously. He gave me a cheeky grin.
"W-what was that for?" I gasped, that weird feeling staying in the pit of my stomach.
Before Blake had a chance to answer, I doggy-paddled over to the side of the pool. Pulling myself out, I situated myself on the side with my feel still in the water.
"Aw chill out. Zach dared me to," Blake grinned at his friend, who was sitting nearby in a lounge chair with his phone. Zach met his grin and winked at me. I felt my face heat up in anger.
Shaking my head vigorously, I glanced at Nicole, who was so preoccupied with the butterfly stroke that she didn't even notice that Blake practically suffocated me.
