(Moonstone's POV)
Moonstone got to class early. Again. Miss Diamond said hello as she shuffled into the room, to which she responded with a nod. She took her seat by the far wall, at a table by herself. She pulled up her blue hoodie and tightened it around her face, then began sketching on her drawing tablet.
(Sunstone POV)
Just sit by her. Just sit by her. Just sit by her.
The thought hopped through Sunstone's mind on repeat, working up her courage. She was more confident than usual today, and she really felt like she could-
"Hey loser!"
Oh, great.
Jasper, Peridot and Lapis Lazuli strolled up to her. Peridot wasn't paying attention to where she was going while she was playing some game on her hologram. Lapis was looking at Jasper, exasperated. Jasper was walking with a lot of shoulder movements towards her.
"I think you're in the wrong place. The garbage dump is that way!"
Peridot burst out laughing in the weird, evil way she does it and Lapis smiled, just a little. Sunstone rolled her eyes.
"Jasper, you look a little lost yourself," She said with false sympathy. "The cheeto factory is downtown."
Jasper's sneer faded, just a bit. Lapis appeared to be biting her cheeks, trying not to laugh. Everyone knew that she wasn't really that bad, she just enjoyed being popular. Plus, both Jasper and Peridot were totally in love with her.
"Well, everyone loves Cheetos, but you're still trash!"
She felt a hand on her shoulder. It was Rose Quartz.
"Lay off her, Jasper." She snapped. "C'mon, Sun, let's go sit down."
Sunstone nodded. Guess she wasn't sitting by Moonstone today.
(Lapis' POV)
We walked into the classroom, Jasper muttering about Cheetos. We sat at our table, right in the middle. Peridot scooted her chair next to mine.
"Hey, uh, Lapis?" She mumbled. I looked at her and smiled.
"Yes, Peridot?"
She cleared her throat. "Aquamarine's having a pool party tonight-"
"I'm in. I love swimming!" I grinned at her.
"Great! I'll text you the address-"
"There's a party?" Jasper cut in. "You'll get me an invitation, obviously."
"Uh, yeah. Sure, Jasper." She smiled unconvincingly. Poor Peridot. Jasper's always stepping on her.
Miss Diamond clapped, and our focus was diverted.
"Okay class, today we will be studying Fusion. Turn on your holograms, I'm broadcasting the link now."
Peridot sighed and held up her hand. Her fingers placed themselves into a square and her hologram popped up. Jasper and I got ours out of our gem storage containers. We started reading when there was a knock on the door.
(Moonstone's POV)
I sat up a little when I heard the low knocking on the door and a gem I'd never seen before stepped inside. She was deep purple and gold, her hair in a fancy updo. Her eyes were deep blue and her gem was on her neck. Her dress was long, almost like a wedding dress, but it was gold and purple. Everyone gaped.
"Oh, right." Miss Diamond smiled. "Everyone, this is Ametrine. She just moved here. Sit wherever you like, dear."
She looked around. Amethyst smiled sheepishly at her. Jasper waved at her. A gem named Beryl raised her eyebrow at her. Even so, she started walking in my direction.
Jasper scowled.
My eyes widened, but I looked away quickly.
Then, she sat by me.
"Hello." She said. Her voice was deeper than I expected. Not too deep, but lower than most of the gems in my class.
"Hi." I mumbled.
"I'm Ametrine." She smiled and folded her hands on the table. "What may I call you?"
"Moonstone." I breathed. She smiled.
"One of my cousins is a Moonstone! How curious."
I smiled weakly.
"Uh, nice dress." I mumbled.
"Oh, thank you! I just had it made. I quite like the design on your hoodie."
I blushed. "Oh, uh, thanks. Wait, you had you dress made?"
She looked at me funny, then laughed. "Ohohohoho! My stars, I apologize. I thought I told you, my mother is Rhodolite, a successful fashion designer."
I nodded. I, being the reclusive hermit of a nerd that I was, had no idea who that was.
"Get to work, girls." Miss Diamond called.
"Yes, ma'am." I mumbled.
"While I was reading, Ametrine broadcasted a private note to my hologram. It read,
Would you like to come to my housewarming party this evening? The whole class is invited, but I wanted you to be the first to know. :)
I gaped at the words, rereading them twice more. Yes, I had just been invited to a party. I messaged her back;
I'd be happy to but i dont have anything to wear
She messaged me almost instantly;
Not to worry, my friend! I'll warp a dress that will look stunning on you. ;) I can't wait to see you there!
Oh, dear. A winky face? Was she flirting, or did her hand slip, or what?? So I messaged back;
cant wait !
I smiled throughout the rest of the day. My first party. Wow.
