A walker is hunched over, devouring a freshly killed rabbit. Its bones crunch as the walker sloppily gnaws at the carcass.
Suddenly—
THWACK!
Lee Everett swings his axe, lodging it in the back of the walker's skull. It collapses in a heap next to the rabbit's remains. A moment later, Mark arrives beside him, breathing heavily.
Mark: "Damn it. What'd they get this time?"
Lee: "Looks like a rabbit..."
Mark: "Well, that's another meal lost."
They begin walking deeper into the woods.
Mark: "I still can't believe we went through all that commissary food in three months. It seemed like so much at the time."
Lee: "Maybe you shouldn't have opened the door."
Mark: "Yeah, well, except then I'd probably be food right now. Trust me, I got no regrets."
Lee: "A rabbit's hardly a meal, Mark, but... I'd take it. We're all hungry."
Mark: "No kidding. When I accidentally grabbed for Carley's rations the other night, I thought she was gonna take off my hand."
Lee: "We're all on edge. Just cut her some slack."
Mark: "Yeah, you're right. Still... I wish I knew for sure how much food we have left. We can't always rely on Peter bringing us something back from the woods. Shit, that kid knows his way around thanks to his mother, but still... aren't you worried about him?"
Lee slows down, frowning slightly.
Lee: "He's not slowing down, Mark. He just won't give up. You've seen it—he checks every alley, every house, every goddamn block in Macon looking for Ellie. If he thinks he's got a chance, I believe in him."
Mark: "Maybe. But risking his life every day like that? Besides not everyone agrees with how Lilly handles rations... or how you let Peter keep running off."
Lee: "Lilly knows it's important to keep the adults fed and focused. Sometimes that means someone's gotta skip a meal. And as for Peter? She can't stop him. No one can."
Mark: "You think Kenny's having any more luck than we are?"
Lee: "I sure hope so."
Mark: "Yeah... Between the lack of food and the fights between Kenny and Lilly, things are tense. You know Kenny's been talking about taking off if he can get that RV running?"
Lee: "Kenny won't abandon us. He's a good man."
Mark: "I guess we'll see. Can't blame him, though... Did you hear Larry going off on him last night?"
Lee scoffs.
Mark: "What's the old man's deal anyway? Seems like he's got a problem with everyone—especially you. I mean... I get that Peter keeps insulting him every chance he gets, but Larry's acting like a pressure cooker."
Lee: "He thinks I'm a threat to the group, to Clementine and Peter."
Mark: "I think he's the threat. I wouldn't be surprised if Lilly's been skimming rations just to keep him healthy. The guy's all muscle. Walking piledriver. I know I wouldn't wanna be stuck in a room with him."
Mark (chuckling): "Didn't he punch you in the face that one time? No wonder Peter hate his guts."
Lee: "Knocked me flat."
Just then, a bird flutters into a tree nearby. Lee and Mark both duck behind a large rock. Mark raises his rifle.
Lee: "Don't. Gunshot'll bring walkers. One bird's not worth it."
