As I ran back through the forest I noticed how deadly silent everything was. An atmosphere of deceit and terror seemed to hang in the air and I knew something wasn't right.

As I neared our home from the forest I heard angry hushed voices arguing coming from inside. The front door glowed the orange candlelight that reminded me of dark evenings.

Opening the wooden door I found my mother and three of the fighters from our village in a tense circular stance. At my entrance all had silenced and I took the moment to try and identify the guests.

One fighter stood tall, dark and handsome. I recognised him as one of Ethans friends and was pretty sure his name was Dan, he was human. Another was a Alkonst who I realised was the mayors grandson, he was one of the best fighters in our ranks.

Finally I looked up to find Ethan, he was incredibly angry and looked down at me with apology and terror.

I'd never seen him so scared.

It was as if time slowed, suddenly Ethan sprung out in front of me like a shield. The force threw me back and I fell onto my back against the door I had just entered. My head hit the hard wood and I felt my vision blur slightly at the shock.

I faintly saw fighting in front of me, I noticed Ethan fighting the other two boys off and I heard the shouts and cries of my mum for them to stop.

As my vision cleared I noticed my mothers heart shaped face covered with tears above me.

"Whats going on?" I said, my voice coming out a raspy mess.

"They think your Salamanders daughter, they want to take you."

I pulled myself up out of her hold, a slight dizziness overcame me but I held on clutching my head wincing. Finally up on my feet I headed over to the men fighting, Ethan was currently holding himself up well in the fight. However two men against one wasn't a fair fight.

Sidling up to the man nearest me I took him by surprise and kicked both of his feet out from under him. He cried out in a surprise, but before long he noticed my figure above him and fought back. He twisted my ankle at a force I was sure broke it and pulled himself up.

I anticipated his next move- a right kick at my side. Grabbing the foot before it hit me I locked it under my arm and twisted his leg to the left, using the distraction I then lifted my right foot up and kicked him straight in his man parts. He fell straight to the ground when I realised his leg, then I kicked him for good measure in the head at a force strong enough to knock him out.

Too lost in my own victory I failed to notice the other fighter- the mayors grandson, come up behind me. It went too fast, when I noticed his presence he already had my hands behind my back in a firm grip and I was pulled against a tall strong body. I cried out in fear but it was soon muffled by a cloth that was put over my mouth. I instantly noticed the distinctive sweet smell of chloroform and held my breath.

"Give in Edana, I'm sorry it had to be this way but you leave me no choice," I heard a deep voice whisper in my ear.

I tried to fight, I kicked my legs around trying to find his weak point but it was no use. Just as I finally gave in and inhaled I noticed Ethan and my mother all blooded and unconscious on the ground. I choked and felt one tear drop onto the cloth before everything went black.

.. . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ... . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ... . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

My eyes opened to complete darkness. I was in a cave, figuring from the musty, damp smell and rocky wet walls.

My eyes did there thing and adjusted to the darkness, soon I could see where I was and who I was with. Ethan and my mother lay passed out on the ground on the opposite side of the cave. Clumsily I got up onto my feet and ran across to them. I hadn't gotten more than two metres before I hit something that felt as hard as a brick wall. My body was flung back from the wall and I blinked in shock at what had just happened.
