it was getting late, the light within the house dimming by the hour. you were alone yet again, cody leaving to be with a few friends of his. you'd called him a couple of times throughout the day only to be left with his voicemail and unread messages. you trust cody with everything, so you knew either his phone died or he was busy and you hadn't wanted to seem over protective of him although it didn't stop you from worrying.
you looked at the time, seeing it was nearly midnight and there had been no signs of cody what so ever. so you decided to call him one last time, praying he'd answer. as soon as you dialed his number, it went directly to voicemail. you couldn't help the frustrated groan that left your lips, upset and angry at cody for not bothering to call or at least let you know he was okay.
it was after the last time you called and he hadn't answered that your worst fears kicked in. you knew cody wouldn't dare touch another girl, there was no way he'd stoop that low. but as well, you knew cody couldn't have gotten into much trouble. he was bold enough to take matters into his own hands and defend himself when he needed too. you could feel your heart rate accelerate, the apartment falling under a gloomy state.
you sat on the couch, digging your face into your hands, blowing out an excessive amount of air. it was getting later by the minute and you wondered when cody would walk through the door. you thought about how you would react. would you run into his arms and tell him about how much he worried you? or would you yell at him for not answering his phone or at least sending a text before the phone died if it had. you groaned, leaning your head back.
you would wait for cody until he walked through the front door, here on the couch. after a few more hours, your mind was weak and your eyes began to flutter closed. you had no idea where cody could be, but you were tired of waiting for him. he should know how much you care for him, of course you'd worry. and so you allowed your eyes to close completely, letting sleep drag you under.
it wasn't until light began to seep through the curtains, that you had awoken. you could feel your neck sore due to the position you had slept in. you opened your eyes completely, aware that it was morning and cody still hadn't showed. you leaned forward, running your fingers through your hair before getting up and walking to the kitchen. stretching your limbs, you leaned against the counter. you allowed yourself to let out a few tears, your mind believing that cody had most likely been with someone else. before you could stop yourself, you were sobbing uncontrollably letting the tears run down your cheeks. you were angry and upset, too many emotions clouding your thoughts.
you dig your face further into your hands, continuing to cry. as soon as you heard footsteps approaching you, you lifted your head abruptly, watching the man you loved walked by you without so much as a glance. it was obvious where you stood, yet he hadn't bothered to speak a word. you could feel your stomach drop, wiping your eyes before following cody down the hall.
"cody," you snapped sternly. he continued walking.
"cody!" you called once more, your anger beyond fueling. he still ignored you, making his way to your guy's bedroom. you followed close behind, stopping at the doorway watching him make his way to the bed.
"cody fucking herbinko," you started, "where the hell have you been all night?"
he simply turned to acknowledge you, giving a simple reply, "out."
"you have got to be kidding me," you let out a laugh of disbelief. he'd been gone all night making you believe the worst and worrying, "you owe me one hell of an explanation. do you have any idea how worried I was?"
"and? I was out. don't worry about it," he shrugged, removing the snapback from his head, shaking his brown locks to fall back in place. he ran a hand through his hair, acting as if everything was okay.
you walked over by him, a huge wave of fragrance possesing your senses. you felt your eyes widen, heart dropping. that had not been your scent at all, nor had you been near cody for him to contain such a feminine scent.
"you didn't," your voice was weak, the worst of your fears coming alive directly in front of you. he gave a look of confusion, before realising what you meant. he hadn't replied, making it seem as if it wasn't a huge deal. the silence he was giving made it clear he had been with another girl.
"how could you, cody?" you coughed out, feeling the tears fight their way to the surface. you forced yourself to hold them back, not wanting to be a sobbing mess in front of him. he ducked his head down, before letting out a sigh. not only had he come home the next morning, but he was ignoring you not even able to explain himself. you could feel the tears dry, anger rising by the second.
"did I not mean anything to you? did I do something wrong?"
"no, it's just. . ." he paused, thinking of how to reply.
"it's just what?" you snapped, watching him be indecisive. It was obvious he was thinking of what to say, clearly trying to make up a lie, "don't lie to me, cody."
"I feel suffocated being here! I can't go out without you blowing up my phone or asking me where i'm going every step I make. I'm tired of it," he sighed. you could feel your heart shatter. so he wasn't happy, he never was.
"maybe I just needed something new."
"you're sick," you spit, taking a few steps back. he hadn't followed but before you walked away completely you turned around to speak again, "I'm sorry I love you and I care. if you felt that way you should have came to me instead of burying your issues into some slut and coming back only to lie to my face."
his expression had dropped, before he nodded knowing you were right. there was no point in cheating, he had a choice and he chose his hormones and needs over you. it was clear where you stood and you hadn't wanted anymore of it.
"I'm gonna go stay with a friend, tonight. I'll come back for my things tomorrow." you sighed. you didn't want to fight, it wouldn't change what he did and how he felt. walking out of the room, your left your heart in cody's hands where he stood crushing it. you could feel a tear slip down your cheeks as you searched for your car keys. of course, they were in the bedroom. you let out a frustrated laugh at how pathetic you felt. by now, the tears were a waterfall down your face. walking slowly to the room, you forced the tears away.
as you stepped into the room, cody had already held your keys within his fingers glancing up at you as you approached him. if there was anything more embarrassing, it was your cheating boyfriend handing you your own car keys basically pushing you out the door.
you snatched the keys from his hands without a word, stepping away from him. you didn't bother looking him in the eyes, you knew you wouldn't be able to look at him the same.
"y/n," he called. you paused, your back to him. you turned my head to hear him, but never looking at him.
"don't go," he began, "please."
you turned around, letting your emotions take over completely.
"you're kidding right?" you scoffed, "we're done, cody. the cody I fell in love with would've never done this. you did this. I was always there for you through everything and you went and cheated on me because you wanted something 'different.'"
"I know, and it was stupid. I do love you, I still love you," he pleaded, "I need you, please."
"there's a difference between need and want. I think you should figure that out before you bother to take a step anywhere near me." you clutched the keys in your hands, walking your way out of the room. you were absolutely numb, and hurt. you weren't enough for him and you feared you'd never be enough. and nothing possibly hurt more than that.
