it was late afternoon when cody decided he wanted to take you out, whether it be for dinner or for a walk while the sun was setting, you didn't know. after you'd received his text messages, a smile lit up your face and you immediately headed straight for the shower.

brushing your hair, taking care of simple necessities, you were dressed in a pair of light washed jeans and a dark, maroon top.

it was moments like these where you paniced, not knowing if what you were wearing was nice enough for cody, if you looked good, or if cody would bother to pay attention to you. you couldn't help it, some of your thoughts had a tendency to be unhealthy but you cared for cody in ways you've never cared for anyone else.

but there were reasons the two of you were together, and you knew that. he loved you, and you loved him. you knew he was the least judgemental person you'd ever met and you also knew he didn't mind what you wore. because it wasn't the clothes or the style of hair or the color of polish on your nails that he wanted, it was you. it was your smile, your conversations, your personality, it was the bounce to your walk, it was all the little components that created you as a person.

it was always you.

and before you knew it, cody was at your door, a warm smile enveloping his features and his hands quickly surfacing around your waist. the heat of his hands easily spreaded throughout you, causing you to instinctively lean into him, head tilted up so you could place a quick peck to his lips. and at that moment every single doubt and every thought had vanished into thin air, gone and forgotten. you let go.

"so," you smiled, "where are you taking me?"

"I was thinking somewhere along the lines of ice cream before it gets dark, and once it does we can walk around the park or the strip mall down town?" his hands never left your side, in fact they rested there, warm and comforting.

"sounds like a plan," letting go of cody, you ran into the kitchen where you grabbed ahold of your keys and small purse, meeting cody back at the door. taking your hand in his, he lead the way out the door and into his car.

once seated, the two of you had a simple conversation before just sitting seemed to be just fine. the light melody of music playing for the two of you to enjoy, his free hand wrapped in your fingers, resting on your thigh. everything felt so calming, no words needed to be said.

glancing at cody, his eyes were concentrated on the road ahead of him. his brown hair tossled, tongue darting out to wet his lips every once in awhile. it wasn't until his jaw clenched did you realize he knew you were watching him. but you didn't turn away, nor were you embarrassed. cody was yours, and you felt as though you had a right to admiring.

"you kind of look hot with your jaw clenched," you said out loud, laughing when cody released his hand from yours to tap your nose, to which you scrunched at him.

"and you look cute when you scrunch your face, like an angry puppy."

"I'm sure I do," you playfully rolled your eyes, "give me your hand back."

you reached for his fingers once more, liking the feel of just touching him. it was the small things like this that you loved, that you noticed and adored. the small circles his thumb made, the assuring squeeze he gave you, the way he tapped his fingers against your hand to the beat of the music, you were enamored with it all.

"we're here," cody stated, pulling into a parking place before you both got out of his car and walked by the ice cream stand. it was small, not too big. the only seats were outside while all the treats were inside. nearing the stand, there was a guy standing in front of cody and you.
