you and cody laid in bed, your legs tangled together with your head rested on his chest. you could feel the pads of his fingers glide smoothly over your chilled skin, enjoying his soft touch. digging your body further into his side, he let out a content hum.

you both had been quiet, but it was comfortable. knowing you didn't need a conversation or words at all to speak to one another was the best feeling. a simple smile, and warm hug, your bodies tangled, a chaste kiss, feeling one another, was enough for the both of you to express just how much you loved one another without words and it couldn't have felt any better.

you lifted your head to look at cody, sound asleep. his eyes were closed and his breathing had fallen under a steady rhythm. you examined his features, the way his bottom lip was set to a pout or the way his ruffled hair was parted unevenly. he was dressed in gray sweats and a black t-shirt, and yet he still was the most beautiful boy you had ever laid eyes on.

his arms were still wrapped rightly around you, his grip never loosening even under the spell of sleep. you smiled to yourself, happy that he was still clinging to you tightly as if he was afraid you'd leave. you'd never leave, that was for sure. you loved him so much, too far in to leave.

but what worried you was him. you were always questioning whether you were enough or when he would eventually get bored of you. you feared the day he'd have enough, absolutely dreaded it. you were scared that the inevitable chance of him leaving was soon, and you only hoped you were wrong. but hope was such a slim thing, and yet you found yourself dangling on such a fragile string.

you could hear the beat of his heart. it was steady and at rest. you took the chance to remove his hands from your waist, lifting yourself slowly so he wouldn't wake. the bed had lifted, your place now cold. you watched as cody's body had moved, taking a pillow between his arms as if it were you, making your heart flutter. placing your bare feet on the floor, you picked your body up and walked to the bathroom down the hall.

stepping in, you immediately went to the mirror, cringing at what you saw. questioning what cody saw in you, but you were still thankful he'd found qualities within you to claim as his and love to such extents. lifting your shirt, so your stomach showed, you felt your hands run over your skin. feeling your body, your face holding a sour look.

your hands ran down to your thighs, lifting the loose fabric of cody's shorts, taking the skin between your hands and mentally scolding yourself for the body you held.

next, you stared at the person in the mirror. you examined the color of your skin, the shape of your nose, the size of your lips, the color of your eyes, the messy hair, everything that you felt so overly insecure about. you couldn't hate yourself, but you highly resented who you were. you felt as if you weren't the prettiest girl to ever live, wondering why cody had chosen you over so many other beautiful girls in the world.

you traced over your features, a tear slipping from your eyes. you hadn't stopped it, watching as the slow tears guided their way down to your cheeks. you were glaring at the person standing in the mirror, shaking your head.

and as you continued to point out every one of your flaws, the door had creaked open. you hadn't noticed until the figure was stepped beside you, bringing their soft touch to your arms. cody's hands wrapped softly around your upper arms, scooting you against his chest. the both of you facing the mirror.

"what do you think you're doing?" he whispered, the softness of his words almost sounding like breaths. you hadn't replied.

his hands roamed down your arms, and over your stomach until they reached the hem of your shirt. his fingers lifting the fabric, so your stomach was visible to him.
