Ruth's POV

xxxxxxxxx

My hand shakes as I press answer. I hold it to my ear.
"Hello?" I say quietly. I can hear a voice on the other end, but its staticky and unclear, as if the phone was set on a table, and someone was talking quitly on the other side of the room. "Hello?" I say again.
The voice sounds as if the phone is breaking up. It stops.
"Who is this?" I whisper.
"Play the game." The voice is clear as day. The call ends, and I'm to shocked to do anything. I'm frozen. I sit, staring at the phone for what seems like hours, until I can finally think straight.

I dial Rue's number, and wait until I hear her on the other end.
"Hello?" She answers the phone.
"Hey, its me." I say, trying my hardest to keep my voice from shaking. "Oh, hey!" She replies. "Are you okay? Your voice is shaking. Is something wrong?"
"Yes. No. Its hard to explain. I need a place to stay tonight. You doing anything?" She hesitates, I can tell shes thinking. "Charlie and Sav are staying over, Damien is going out with some friends, and I think Matt is as well, but you can come." She says.

Yes.

"Whats wrong? You can tell me." She asks worriedly. I sigh, thinking a about what to say. "I'll explain everything tonight." Is all I say. I will. I have to tell someone. "Okay." She sighs. "But you have to tell me, your scaring me." I laugh. "Nah, I will. Promise."
"Okay, see ya tonight." She hangs up, leaving me alone in this bloody mansion.

I walk upstairs to my bedroom, grabbing things and placing them in a bag. I check for the 22. Caliber under the bed again. It's still there. I pick it up, and place it in my bag. I hear my phone go off, I have a text. I check my phone, and the breath hitches in my throat.
The number is mine.
The text states three simple words.

Play the game

I hold back a scream when I hear the game boot up by itself. I spin around, pointing the gun at the TV like a fucking idiot. I whimper.
No longer alone. No longer safe.
