I'm posting this early because I love you all 🥰
Now say you love me back 😊🔪
Please leave comments on this chapter. I worked very hard on it and trying to get the flow right. I'd love to see your reactions to the paragraphs in the comments, even if you think of something to comment that you think is too simple, still comment it. I'll always read my comments!
I'll shut up now, enjoy!
Minho says it softly, like he's offering a suggestion instead of a threat, but the fire in his eyes suggests otherwise. "Let's begin."
Seungmin speaks up first. Of course.
"Do you think you're better than us, Chan?"
There's no build-up, no pretending this is friendly; it's straight to the throat.
Chan's gaze flickers to where Seungmin is slouched against the wall, arms crossed, looking like he's already bored with whatever answer is coming.
"No." Chan's voice is calm. "Not better, but different. That's what bothers you, isn't it? I don't think the same as most people."
Jeongin's grip on the knife shifts, but he doesn't move without a signal from Minho. Seungmin's lips twitch, not a smile, more like a tight grin to play off his anger, but his clenched fists give him away.
Jisung pipes up next. His tone is bright and full of cheer, as if Chan's life isn't being threatened right now.
"Hey, honey! What's your biggest fear?"
Chan tilts his head slightly, but his answer is immediate.
"Being powerless and unable to do anything about it."
Jisung giggles, and it's a sound that doesn't quite belong here, as if it escaped without permission, but his grin is wide and pleased, like that was the exact answer he wanted to hear.
Felix skips into the conversation, voice soft and syrupy. "You hate being powerless? Then doll, you must've been scared when Binnie had that knife to your neck, right?"
Chan's answer is easy. "No." He has to resist the laugh that threatens to leave his throat as he smiles smugly. "I wasn't scared because I knew I was able to do something about it."
Changbin scoffs, stepping forward with a scowl. "You should've been."
Chan's lips twitch, and he smiles at Changbin with the same fake sweetness that could put Felix and Jisung to shame. "Maybe, but I wasn't."
The air shifts slightly, not enough to break the tension, but enough that it settles in Chan's chest like a weight.
Hyunjin peels off from the wall next, moving like he's in no rush, like this is all just a game. He crouches in front of Chan, close enough that Chan can practically see the thoughts flickering behind his eyes.
"Do you like watching people suffer, Doctor?"
It's not an accusation, not really. It's more curious, like Hyunjin is sketching him in his mind and needs this one last detail to complete the sketch he has of him in his head.
Chan meets his gaze without blinking. "No, but I don't look away from it, either. It's like a car accident."
Hyunjin hums, standing back up with a graceful stretch, like that answer fits just fine in the story he's building. A doctor who doesn't necessarily like to watch others in pain, yet he can't quite bring himself to look away.
