my hands were shaking as i sat on the marble floors in mine and my husband, jacks bathroom in our home.
we had gotten married about five years ago and really wanted to start making a family together. we've been trying for almost a year now but every time that certain week of the month comes up we're disappointed by the lack of a baby in our lives.
this time around my period had been late, and while that isn't necessarily abnormal, i have a pretty irregular period so it sometimes is a few days late, i've also been super nauseous the last few days and can't even look at food without throwing up my insides. i had called the girls, delaney, chloe, and abby and they all came to my house, while the boys were out playing hockey for fun, with three pregnancy tests and a whole bunch of ice cream and chocolate, which could be good for either outcome.
i had taken the tests four minutes ago and i was on the final countdown to the fifth minute where i'd get the answer to whether i was pregnant or not.
the girls all sat around me anxiously waiting for abby's phone timer to go off signaling for us to look at the test.
my leg was bouncing up and down in anxiousness and the girls had been trying to comfort me for the last few minutes.
"deli, no matter what happens it'll be ok. jacks always here for you and so are we."
"i just- we've been trying for so long and i really want this to happen."
"we know, we want this for you too, but there are other options in case you aren't actually pregnant."
"lets not think negatively though because we still haven't seen the tests yet." just as chloe finished her sentence abby's phone went off signifying that the test was ready.
i looked at all of the girls with wide eyes and they all gently smiled at me.
"do you want us to look at them first?" abby asked.
"y-yeah, please."
each of the girls took a test and turned it over, looking at each one of them in their hands. all of their jaws dropped and their hands flew to their mouths as they looked at me with tears in their eyes.
"w-what? what do they say?"
"oh my god. delilah, you're pregnant!"
"no way, you're lying." i said my eyes filling with tears as i looked at all of the tests.
"oh my god, i'm finally pregnant." i cried as each of the girls surrounded me in a group hug, crying tears of joy.
"oh my god, this is so exciting! when're you gonna tell jack?"
"tell me what?" we heard from the bathroom doorway.
our heads shot towards the voice as we spotted jack there. we all quickly hid the pregnancy tests behind my back as i stood up with them in my hands.
"hey, jack. you're home earlier then i thought you'd be."
"yeah, it got crowded and people started to notice us so we left. but why do you guys look like you were crying?" i looked behind me at the girls as they nodded at me, telling me that i should tell jack.
i took a deep breath and grabbed jacks hand placing it palm up in front of me while placing all three tests on it. he looked at them with confusion until his mouth fell open and his eyes wavered with tears.
"holy shit. these- these are real?" he looked up at me.
"yeah." i cried.
"you're pregnant?"
"yeah."
"oh my god... holy shit i'm gonna be a dad. i'm gonna be a dad!" he shouted and picked me up spinning me in a circle as everyone laughed and cheered.
i laughed as he sat me down on the floor and pulled me into a sweet kiss. i gently pulled away as he rested his forehead on mine and placed his hand on my stomach.
"ok, jack, enough, let us give her a hug." delaney said as she pulled jack away and wrapped her arms around me swaying me back and forth.
"im so happy for you, dell."
"i love you." i said resting my hands on her shoulders as we pulled out of the hug.
"i love you too, delilah."
