Once inside the air conditioned safe haven, I sigh. I hope some things never get old, coffee is at the top of that list. Mm, so is cute guys. Look at that chiseled piece of cute.
I don't want a relationship, but what's the harm in looking. For a second I see Lucas drooling over me and kinda feel bad the guy. He's cute but one, he isn't my type, two I don't want to date and, and three I heard from Jasmine that he's a player. Normally I wouldn't think anything of it, but she seemed trustworthy, plus he's dated a lot of girls.
My eye candy apparently has an older friend. I watch as he speaks with him in hushed tones, they appear to be conflicted with something. Whatever I have my coffee in gonna get it ready. I go to the stand with caramel and pour some in, do not judge caramel rocks. As I stir a guy comes and says shortly "Excuse me." Hmm, older friend is polite but short enough to show he doesn't want conversation. "M'kay see ya." I tip my head in parting and walk to the corner of the room, where my table sat.
Sipping my coffee I look up at the room, not a lot of people are here. I turn my head to the cute boy and what I now assume is his older brother. Why you ask? Because, they are arguing but they still show fierce protection over each other. I would know that fierceness from anywhere.
"Callan, we can't leave without the package. You know that." The older one says, hmm suspicious, my nosy self listened on. "I know, but Troy I'm getting a seriously bad feeling. There's something really weird about this town." Callan says worriedly and I mentally nod in agreement, yeah there's a magical school which probably means there's hundreds of people here who are magical beings. Considering Columbia Falls is about 900 people that's a lot.
This Callan is soo right. "Come on don't worry one day tops then we'll go back to Texas." At this I perk up and smile "What area of Texas are you guys from." I completely forgot I was eavesdropping, but I was reminded by Troy. "We were having a private conversation, excuse yourself from it."
I scoff "Hon, puh-lease if you want to have a private conversation, much like in the south, you gotta go home sprinkle holy water over the entrances and hope a window isn't cracked." He rolls his eyes and groans "Ugh, I hate small town people." I smile coldly at my fellow Texan and lean forward like I was going to share a secret. "Well we small town folks hat ego-inflated jerks, who come out of no where, invade our safe havens, and dismiss our welcoming nature with a rude stereotypical remark." I huff and once I'm done ranting I look at them calmly and smile "I'm Hazel, and you're Callan and Troy. Maybe when you want to have a private conversation, you'll go somewhere that's actually private."
I walk off and Callan the one around Jeremy's age says "Sorry we didn't mean to offend you miss." I turn around and say "You didn't offend me, your brother did, and he did mean to offend me, so yeah. But, don't go to the high school or the chapel spouting out that small town nonsense, because those are the most judgmental places here and they'll run you out of town with pitch forks and torches before you can even pick up anything. Damage done, received, reserved."
Troy looked at me like he found out I had a tail. "What did you say?" I squinted at him and said "That means the insult you've given me is being saved in case you want insult me again." He doesn't seem to hear what I say but once I've finished he looks at his brother and says hurriedly "We need to leave now," he gets up and grabs his coat.
Okay, what happened? I look at Callan and he looks determined to escape my gaze. "Kay, fine. Jeez, you try to burn someone and suddenly they think you'll kill them. I was just trying to tell you to be open minded about Columbia Falls, but no as soon as I got my needle your ego screamed in fear." I scoff.
Troy tried to leave so I step to the side to let him through, but he steps to the side too so I step again and so does he. "Get out of my way demon-spawn." Okay, did he just say what I thought he said? Oh, this frickin boy! In anger I kind of let me electricity go and zapped him.
"Ugh!" He kneels and I feel bad instantly, I shouldn't have done that he's a jerk but a human jerk. "I'm so so soo sorry, here" I reach out to touch his arm but he steps back I sigh "Stop being stubborn, dammit I'm trying to help you even after you insulted me so lowly." I reach him and take a look at the burn "Can't promise this won't hurt, Callan go get your brother some ice." Okay the ice will help some.
He returns and gives me a look of curiosity. Wait, he needs an explanation shoot. "Uh, my Dad was a doctor and I used to live in a house with faulty wires." Okay not exactly a lie, my dad was a doctor, but I was the cause of the faulty wiring.
I put the ice on his burn, and he hisses. I slowly pull the electricity out as I rub the ice over the burn. "Okay, so you'll want to wrap that in a wet cold paper towel, which you can find in a bathroom because you seem to be in a hurry to leave. See ya later I got to get back to class." I turn without a second glance and gather my things to leave. Just as I open the door Troy says thank you rudely. He doesn't like being rescued by a girl. Ha, imagine if he knew I was the cause for the rescue. Back to the crappy school.
