They weren't meant to meet. It was simply a chance that both of them were grateful for. Or maybe simply it was fate, that neither of them believed in.

She was in a hotel room at the time. Her father just had another big fight and she would always come to this hotel when it got really bad. Yes, she had to pay for the room, but that's where her mum's credit card came in.

He was drunk at the time. His family had long since kicked him out and his only place was the hotel that his cousin owned. They weren't great friends, granted, but at least there was a roof over his head when for many months the only roof over his head was benches at the local park.

He stumbled to his hotel room. What he didn't notice was that the room number wasn't 330 but rather 318. Nor did he notice that the door was slightly ajar, for those things simply went into one ear and came out the other in his drunken state. Pushing open the door, he made his way to the bathroom. He didn't notice that the bathroom wasn't on the right side, but on the left. He simply heard running water and knew that was the bathroom.

All of that information slipped his mind when he vomited in the toilet. At least he thought it was the toilet.

He turned and there she was, in the bathtub filled with ice. Just her nose was out of the water, so she couldn't have possibly heard him come in. Her black hair fanned out around her like a dark halo and her black clothes bobbed up and down to the slight movement of the water.

The moment her nose sunk into the ice-filled water, he decided she was beautiful, although her skin was blue from the cold. Suddenly, his sober mind kicked in and he was hauling her up and out of the water. He picked her up like she weighed nothing and hugged her to his chest.

He didn't register the fact that his clothes were soaking now and acted like a second skin, for his drunken mind kicked in again. He stumbled to the bed in the little hotel room, the only thing that didn't spin and become double when he was drunk. He got under the covers with her and hugged her cold, frail body to his chest.

She started shivering properly after a few minutes. Her heart started beating at a normal pace and her skin started to lose its pale blue colour. Feeling started to come back to her fingers and she tried to move them.

It was then that she noticed a body hugging her. She looked over and there he was, breathing his beer and vomit-scented breath on her.
