"Most of the evil of the world comes about not out of evil motives, but somebody saying 'get with the program, be a team player.'"
– Philip Zimbardo
Lila's P.O.V.
Little was known about the physics behind superpowers. Why? Well because superpowers basically broke every known law of physics itself. We could have had PHDs in the subject and IQs of two billion and we still wouldn't have a clue about how Obsidian stopped time or literally melted into the shadows only to reappear in a different shadow somewhere else. It was impossible to ascertain how he did it. The only hope we had was to find a loophole to his powers: some weakness that could help us.
Electro had a good plan before he got captured and that was to eliminate the shadows, but that was almost impossible unless we had a super with light powers on our side, but the closest superpower to light was Arson's flames and last I checked, he wasn't exactly on our side.
Finn pressed his palms into his eyes and rubbed them, suddenly looking very tired. I put an arm around him, hugging him to my side and giving his shoulder a comforting squeeze. He shot me a grateful smile, but then continued to stare at our notes in front of us. He had drawn up a plethora of diagrams, but none of them made any sense simply because superpowers made no sense.
"Claw," Finn said slowly, "how do you do it?"
"Do what?"
"Scale a building. Leap from insanely tall heights. Grow claws out of your fingernails. Any of it?"
"I don't know," I admitted sheepishly, "it just happens."
"Okay, let me ask you this: how did you discover your powers?"
"Um, well I woke up and my mattress and pillow were torn to shreds. I started freaking out so I ran into my brother's room and he was freaking out because all of these metal items were stuck to him. It looked really funny: he had scissors, pens, a stapler, and all that practically glued to him and he kept shaking his arms to try and get everything to fall off."
"Your brother has powers too?" Shit.
"Yeah. He's Alloy."
"Oh that makes sense."
"It does?"
"Yeah, I was just telling Annie and her friend Lila the other day that we've just discovered superpowers are genetic."
I snorted, "only just?" I tried to pretend to be surprised about the information, as if it wasn't me he had just told.
"Yeah, it's been a little hard since supers don't exactly volunteer to get MRIs on a daily basis."
"Touché," I mumbled, "so how did you find out?"
"A few months ago, before the supers disappeared, we tested a whole bunch of twins. I'm assuming Alloy's your twin?" I nodded, "yeah, so a few super twins showed up, and all of the twins we tested had similar type powers."
I remembered that. It was all over the papers that Blaze Labs was looking for volunteer superhero twins to test genetic powers. The whole twin-power theory made sense considering Electro and Mist had powers over elements, and Brady and I could take on characteristics. There was only one flaw to Finn's theory that powers were genetic:
"But neither of my parents have super powers."
"You sure?" Finn grinned and I realised I had no idea.
