Jayden POV

"Jayden!" I heard a voice yell from outside my door. It sounded like a woman. "Wake up, Jayden. We're home."

I slowly rose up. I didn't know what time it was, but I could tell that it was earlier than I usually woke up. I got up from my bed and walked over to my bedroom door groggily. I was rubbing my eyes in an effort to stay awake.

The door opened and my mom walked in. She was only a little shorter than me, standing at 5"10 or 5"11.

I walked over to my mom and gave her a hug, "Hey, welcome back, Mom."

She hugged me back, "Good morning, honey. How've you been?"

I let up on the hug and stood at my doorway with my hands on my hips, it was a little hard to think, I was still kind of groggy. "Uh, I don't know. I guess I've been fine. Just lonely. When did you guys get back?"

"We got back late last night." She explained with a smile. "I think your dad's in the basement, he said to tell you to come down there when you woke up."

I snapped out of my sleepy trance when I heard that, "So he wants to train, huh?"

"Probably." My mom said leisurely.

My mom had a similar shade of brown hair to me and my dad, but it was lighter. And her eyes were green, rather than blue like mine.

"Alright, I'd rather not keep him waiting." I said to my mom.

My mom started to walk away.

"Wait," I called to her. "Have you noticed that there are more dark spirits around this area than usual?"

My mom stopped in her tracks. "Yes. Keep an eye out in case they act up, and don't hesitate to come get me or your dad if you see any around here." My mom then walked away.

I noticed I was still shirtless from when I went to sleep that night, so I went to my dresser and got a sleeveless gray shirt. I kept the gray shorts on.

I began to walk out of my room and down the stairs. As I walked down, I pictured how our fight would go. It was no secret that every time we trained, he scaled down his strength by a ton, and I had to seriously try just to last a minute even when he went easy.

I walked down to the first floor and went back behind the stairs, where I saw the door that led to the basement staircase. I sighed as I opened that door and headed down into the basement.

I really couldn't be shocked at how strong my dad was... Especially considering their line of work. The stairs were very long, and for a reason. The basement went about twenty feet down. We had a fully fledged gym built down there.

I stepped onto the wooden floor and looked around. I saw the holy circle drawn around the gym. That was the circle that kept demons and spirits away from our home. My dad drew it down there so that none of the neighbors complained about symbols and glowing and the such above ground. Even though the symbols were drawn underground, the effects still reached the world above, even birds would fly around our house rather than go through it.

The circle glowed a dark shade of purple, even though it was drawn with white paint originally. I saw my dad, sitting on his knees with his sword on the ground. He slowly got up to face me, leaving his sword on the ground. The circle created an eerie lighting to the place, making everything seem much more serious than it was.

"Jayden, show me how much you've improved since I've been gone." My dad spoke in a deep voice that had only a slight tone of excitement to it.

"Alright." I stepped into a stance and prepared to fight.
