The Confusion

Two days later Piper was still curious on how Luke had tracked her down, she sat at her vanity table looking in the mirror and discussing scenarios with herself.
If you looked at her now she would look mad.
October would walk in every so often and ask her if she figured it out, but Piper would shake her head no and scrunch her eyebrows together.
When she finally came to the conclusion to call him, she almost vomited.
"So you're just gonna call his old phone number and hope it's him?" October asked again.
Piper smiled nervously, "This plan sucks." She said still grinning like an idiot.
"Why are you smiling like that?" October said with her sculpted brows knitted together.
Piper shrugged.  Piper found smiling was the only thing keeping her from having a full on nervous breakdown.
"Well stop, you look like a serial killer." October said sitting down on Piper's unmade bed.
Piper looked down at the phone held firm in her hand and scrolled through her contacts until she landed on the unedited contact with a thousand penguins beside it.
She laughed, when they had first met he put his number in her phone, explaining the emojis.
She clicked on the contact and held the phone to her ear.
"Ring"
"Ring"
"Ring"
She put her index finger in her mouth.
"Rin-"
"Hello?"  Said a deep groggy voice.
She stayed silent and listened to the speaker switch positions.
October mouthed a "is it him?"  And watched as Piper nodded quickly.
"Hello?" The voice said again.
Piper held her breath then shut her eyes,
"Luke?" She said with her eyes still squeezed tightly shut.
"Yes, and who is this?" He said.
She was taken back by his voice, and was mentally face palming as she swooned.
"Hi, this is Piper." She said opening her eyes and staring at Octobers confused face.
She heard yelling and laughter on the other side of the line.
"Oi! Shut up, I'm on the phone!" The voice said yelling, making Piper move the phone back from her ear.
"I'm sorry, who is this again?"
Piper took in a deep breath and rolled her eyes.
"Piper" she said without hesitation, unlike the first time.
"Oh my god." Luke said.
Piper laughed.
"Wait, you're surprised?" She said sarcastically.
"Well yeah, I didn't expect you to contact me." He said slowly.
"Well you did send me your jacket, so...."
He laughed. She heard a voice in the back say "Mate, who is that?"
She heard a muffled "Piper" and felt her eyes widen when she heard the voice say "The Piper?" .
"Sorry about that, I've been feeling... There was a pause.. lost lately." He said.
"I've felt like that for a long time." She said truthfully.
When he left her all those years ago he took a part of her that she could never find, it was like he took a piece from the puzzle of her life.
"I'm so sorry." Luke said barley audible.
"Well, we're all sorry about a lot of things." She said feeling herself choke on air.
"I feel like I've lost my whole world, but it's slowly been coming back." He said.
She sat there confused, as he started to talk again.
"For awhile I felt like I needed to find you, especially after junior year." He said softly.
"Well it looks like every thing turned out alright, lost boy." She said standing from her bed.
"It did, just not how I wanted it to." He said sighing.
She was taken back, she turned to October and felt a tingle in the pit of her stomach.
"How did you want it to?"
He took in a long breath and paused for a moment.
"I thought that I would be with you."
She felt a single tear fall and she fell onto her unmade bed next to October.
"Why did you do that to me?" She asked as October started smoothing her hair.
"I thought I was protecting you."
"Bullshit!" She cried.
October moved and put Pipers head into her lap and started to shush her while she held the phone to her ear.
"I think it's best if I go." He said in a monotone voice.
"I hate you." Piper said and waited for an answer.
"I know, goodbye Piper."  She didn't replie.
Luke took this opportunity,
"I love you."
The line went dead.
Piper threw her phone onto the ground and started to cry into Octobers lap.
She felt like the world had just crumbled from her fingers again, and she didn't know what to do with herself.
She thought over and over how those words were the last ones she had said to him for the second time now.
The words ate at her.
//////////////
Luke-
He stared down at the shattered phone he had just slammed into the ground.
He ran his hands through his messy uncut hair and felt tears run out of his stinging eyes.
Michael was the first to run into the room of their new house in America,
"Mate, what happened?" He said looking at the shattered phone and glass.
"I left for two minuets and you've broken your phone." He said chuckling.
Luke stayed silent and stared at the floor.
He shook his head.
"Why did we do that to her?" Luke asked Michael.
"We were kids, and we needed you in the band." Michael said emotionlessly.
Luke remembered the day they approached him, he had just walked Piper home and was walking down the street to his own home.
They told him that if he didn't join the band then they would hurt Piper, they said to leave her and that they would be his new friends.
He believed them, they're his best mates, but he feels so empty inside.
"I hated you." Luke said.
Michael sighed.
"I know." Michael said then walked out of the room.
Luke fell onto his bed and looked at his favorite picture hanging on the newly crowded wall of posters, the picture was of him and her.  He lazily had his arm around her shoulders, she was smiling widely at the camera with his jacket draped over her, and he was staring at her.
He loves her.
He closed his eyes and dreamed of a better life.
Her.
