Rinai's POV
"See you tomorrow, yeah?" I call out to a classmate, waving at them as I walk backwards down the busy hallway. Not a good idea, I know, but ah well. As they wave and yell back a response, I start to pull out my headphones. Not looking up as I turn to face the direction I'm walking I run smack bang straight into someone.
Looking up startled, I have to do a double take. Instead of some mousey freshman that I was expecting, I was faced with a boy- hold that, man, who is insanely tall. I immediately take a step back as he slowly spins to see a shocked 5"5' me peering embarrassedly up at him. His face is set in deep scowl, his thick black eyebrows draw together and his sharp jawline clenched angrily.
"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry! I was pulling my headphones out of my pocket and I just bumped into you and-" I apologise, my eyes wide and hands held pleadingly in front of me. As I talk his head tilts to the side in confusion, the expression of anger slowly disappearing. He shakes his head and cuts me off.
"Nah, it's all good, I was standing in the middle of the hallway. My bad." He shrugs, his voice smooth and deep. Attractive; just like the rest of him. I give him a quick smile in thanks before moving around him. I'm a couple metres away when I hear his voice again.
"Hey, wait!" He hollers. I turn around to look at him confusedly. His eyebrows are drawn together again, and he looks like he is trying to remember something. "Do I know you from somewhere?" he asks.
I tilt my head and bite my lip as I try to remember if I had seen him anywhere before. I have seen his face somewhere before, I know it. I've probably seen him walking around campus before, that's all. I slowly shake my head, finding it easier to just deny it. "I think you've got the wrong person." I politely respond. He slowly nods his head and I turn to leave again.
"I'm Calum, by the way." He adds on. I turn my head again, that feeling of seeing him somewhere before hitting again. Glancing at him over my shoulder, I smile shyly and say, "Nice to meet you, Calum. I'm Rinai."
And with that I walk away, plugging in my headphones, and blasting some Nickelback, I tune out the world around me. Leaving the insanely attractive and tan boy shaking his head at me with a smile.

"Come on, Nai! Just come with me tonight!" My best friend, Bailey begs. I shake my head again for the fourth time as I place my book-bag onto my bed. She was currently trying to convince me to go out to a club with her and some other friends of ours from the university we all attended. Key word there was trying.
"I can't Bails, I've got to study. I have a test for Legal Studies in three days and I've only done four pages of notes done! The professor said anything less than ten pages of notes wouldn't cover what we need to know for the exam! Just... go out and have fun without me, okay?" I explain frantically, pulling out my laptop .
Bailey lets out a groan and flops onto my bed. Closing her bright blue eyes she lets out another groan, spreading her arms and legs over the entire surface of my bed. I roll my eyes at her.
"How late were you out last night, anyway?" I question, raising my eyebrows at the evident bags under her eyes. Bailey peeks open an eye, shooting me a sheepish smile. "I, uh, may not have actually gone to bed..."
My eyes widen at her response. "Bailey! What were you doing? What would your mother say!" I scold, smacking her short-clad leg playfully. She opens both her eyes and stretches her arms out further above her head.
"The real question, my young grasshopper, is who was I doing, not what." She winks cheekily. "And who gives a rat's ass about what my mum would say? She isn't here, and even if she was she couldn't stop me."
I shoot Bailey a look, silently reprimanding her attitude towards her mother. I knew that her parents didn't often see eye-to-eye with her decisions, but I believed that Bailey could probably try to make an effort to not deliberately defy them at every turn. But I guess that's where her and I differed.
Where Bailey didn't get along with her parents at all, and stayed in minimum contact with them as much as possible, I was the complete opposite. My mum and I were really close; I couldn't go a day without texting or calling her, and the same went for my older brother and little sister.
Bailey rolls her eyes at me, most likely knowing what I was thinking. Getting up off of my bed, she looks at me with puppy eyes in a last bid to convince me. "Are you sure you don't want to come with us?"
I nod my head and send her a lopsided smile, kind of glad I had a reason to escape potential socialising with people I barely tolerated, let alone considered friends. Bailey moves towards the doorway out of my room, but turns back around quickly.
"You know the rules." She started, "Don't open the door for anyone you don't know, don't try to cook- we don't want a repeat of the cheese toasty incident of 2012, and lastly, make sure you call me if anything happens, okay?" Bailey streams out in a single breathe.
I rolled my eyes at her overprotectiveness, but was grateful anyway. She was only trying to protect me. I nodded back at her, easily appeasing her.
"Oh, and Nai?"
"Yeah?"
"Don't be worried if I don't come back home tonight." And with a last suggestive wink she sways the rest of her way out of my room, shutting the door behind her with a small bang.
"Idiot." I mutter with single shake of my head.
