LINK'S POV

I fall to my knees, the truth of that sentence ringing in my ears. I realize that Zant is still speaking.

"...your 'courageous' leader realizes the superior courage, strength, and wisdom of my master." Zant says commandingly, ruining the effect with a giggle. "As such, he willingly puts himself in my hands to do as I will."

"Link!" Colin yells. "Get up! We know that you did it only to protect us! We..." He is silenced by a hard blow and groans. Fury boils inside of me, but I am unable to stand.

"My decision is made." Zant says. "You will be slain by your own blade in front of your precious village." He holds out his hand to Midna. "Midna, darling. Come with me and you will know true power. Let me show you."

He raises my blade. I only watch blankly as it plunges next to my heart. The next thing that I know, I am no longer on my knees, but bleeding on the ground. Zant is grinning above me, my bloody sword extended. I can hear furious cries behind him coming from my village.

Zant's face turns into shock, and he is suddenly writhing in pain. He falls to the ground, dead once again. A tear-ridden Midna is standing behind him, her arm extended.

"You always were a jerk." She says bitterly. Then she kicks him out of the way so that she can kneel beside me.

"Princess Midna, what should we do with the prisoners?" Chreal asks nervously.

"Oh now you'll follow my orders." Midna shouts. "Let them go then you traitors can leave my presence. I can't face you right now." She says rather harshly.

"Midna..." I say, lifting a hand. She immediately turns to face me and grabs my hand. "...you need to know...who you are."

"I remember, Wolf Boy." She says, smiling. "I remember everything." With her free hand, she tears a strip of cloth off of her skirt and presses it against my chest to stop the blood flow.

"Are you just saying that because I'm dying?" I ask.

She leans down and kisses me. "That answer your question?" She says in her smart aleck way, but there is sadness behind her look. "And you aren't dying."

"Now that's a lie if I ever heard one." I smile grimly.

"Stay alive for the baby." Midna begs.

"There won't be one now. That was just what the fortune teller told us."

"Not true." She says, putting my hand to her stomach. A small heartbeat can be felt.

A tear comes to my eye. "Midna...I don't think I can..."

"You're staying with me, mister." Midna says. "This is just like when Zant tried to kill me all those years ago. You saved me."

"Zelda saved you." I correct. I grimace as pain lances through my body. Midna stares at me for a second.

"Yeah...she did...." She thinks for a moment more, then takes the cloth off of my wound. I'm confused, but I don't protest.

"Zelda gave her life to me. It didn't kill her, but I'm now part Hyrulian and I'm alive thanks to her. Now I'm not a shadow in your world." Midna's Triforce starts glow. My eyes widen.

"Midna, Zelda disappeared for months." I caution.

"But we found her." Midna says, tears still running down her face. But she's smiling now. "Just like I found you a few days ago. It's your turn to find me."

"Midna..."

"Let me do this." She says, holding my hand tighter. I don't reply. She leans down and kisses me gently. "I love you." She says, and her Triforce glows brighter. She starts turning transparent.

"I love you, too." I tell her, but it is only to empty air.
