The sun slipped through the window of the apartment when Danny finally awoke next to me. Smiling at me, he said nothing. I turned to look away, and tried to ignore his eyes as they bored into my back. "Morning beautiful," he whispered as he kissed the back of my neck. I shivered and he laughed. "You might as well start getting comfortable around me Honey, you aren't going anywhere. I will never let you go now that I have you." He rubbed my shoulders as he hopped out of bed. Walking out to the balcony, he shut the door behind me, and I relaxed, finally having a moment of peace.
I rolled until I was completely on my stomach, and worked on my hands. With the free time in the night, I moved my hands enough that I could now pull them out of the ropes if I needed to, but they still looked like they were tied. I pulled them out now, and massaged my wrists. I'm going to have scars from these.
The door to the porch, and I quickly slipped my hands back into the ropes, grimacing as they ripped deeper into the skin. "You are so pretty," Danny drawled on. He came and sat by my feet, grabbing them in his hands. "I could never figure out why you didn't love me," He changed the subject quickly. "We would be perfect together, like you were made for me. But you always ignored the attention I doled out towards you, too concerned with Charlie. Who listened to you when you went on and on about how great Charlie was? Huh? That's right me," he glared out the window. "I tried to give you everything. And you wouldn't even look at me."
He threw my feet back on the bed, and I slid back into the headboard. My head pounded as he laughed at me. But something was changing in him. His eyes looked hungrily at me as he slid onto the bed. "You are so beautiful," He whispered in my ear. "I love you. Do you love me?" I spit in his face.
He slapped me in the face. "You ungrateful little..." I cut him off when I slipped my hands out of their ropes. I jumped up and wrapped my arms around his head. When I found the pressure point by his head, I pushed hard, and he was out like a light. His eyes rolled into the back of his head, and I was alone.
I spied a knife glistening in his pocket. With my feet still tied up, I twisted my body until I could reach it. Once I flipped open the knife, I got to work on cutting the ropes.
I was almost down getting my second ankle loose when I felt him stir. I grabbed his gun before he was fully conscious, and when his eyes did open all the way, they opened to a nozzle right in front of his eyes. "Right," I stated as surprise and then anger flickered onto his face. "Here's how we are going to do this. You are going to give me the keys to the apartment, your phone, pager, and any other technological device you have on you. Then, you are going to climb up on that bed, and let me tie you up so tightly you cannot even move, let alone think about getting out. And finally, I am going to leave this apartment, and never see your sick face again." I thwacked his head for god measure and indicted with the gun what he should do.
"Darling..." He started speaking, but I pushed the gun to his forehead as he moved onto the bed.
"Don't under any circumstances, call me that," I glared at him as my voice shook. "I am not your Darling, nor will I ever be. You are a sick person, and I should just shoot you right here and now. So just don't,"
Once he was on the bed, I grabbed the roped that had previously held me captive, and went to work. I held his hands above his head and tied them to each opposite post on the bedframe, pulling so tight he groaned. I could see skin ripping on his hands as I tugged, but I really didn't care enough to loosen it. He didn't deserve my sympathy.
I grabbed his ankles next. Stretching him so his body covered the length of the bed, I removed any weapon he had on him, and then I tied his feet to each post on the bed.
"You really don't have to do this you know," he looked at me pleadingly.
"Oh yes I do. You of all people deserve to suffer, after what you did to my family. You murdered them, and to what point. What were you trying to accomplish?"
"I was just trying to get you to a place that you would need someone to comfort you. I was hoping you would want me for that job," he looked sheepishly up at me.
"I would never want you."
His face turned ashen and cold, and then hurt.
I stood up, happy with my job, and then walked around the apartment, trying to get a sense of where I was.
When I walked out onto the balcony, the Empire State Building gleamed up at me like a glowing light. I was right in the middle of the city, and out of every window I had a view of New York. So that's how he always knew where I was. From any one point in the apartment, Danny could see everything.
Turning back towards him, I saw that he was still watching me. There was a kind of love struck puppy look in his eyes, but I hated him for it. "You realize you ruined my whole life right?" He seemed to be shaken out of some kind of trance. "My whole life. I was planning on going out to dinner with my family the next night. My brother had a football game that weekend. My sister was going out on her very first date. And you ruined everything,"
I have to get out of here, I realized. He was making me crazy.
I headed back to the kitchen, slamming the door behind me. I couldn't look at him anymore, or have him look at me in that way. It was making me crazy. I opened cabinets and rummaged through drawers, looking for my cell phone, my wallet, anything that belonged to me. I am leaving nothing of me behind, he will have nothing. In my delirium, I didn't hear the door open behind me, and before I knew it, something slammed into the back of my head. I fell to the floor; Danny's face the last thing I saw.
