The Rainbow Bridge burned with light beneath their feet, a prismatic stretch of eternity that felt more like judgment than salvation. Beyla's breath caught in her throat as Thor strode forward, Mjolnir in hand, his jaw set with the kind of sorrowful determination she had never seen in him before. At the far end, Loki stood poised before the great mechanism of the Bifrost, the cosmic river already roaring beneath it.
"Brother," Thor's voice thundered against the sky, "stop this madness!"
Loki only smiled, thin and venomous, and with a twist of his wrist, the Bifrost surged faster, pulling the frost giant world into its destructive arc.
Beyla's heart pounded. She wanted to reach for him, to plead, but the storm between the brothers was already crackling to life.
Thor swung Mjolnir, sending a blast of power across the bridge. Loki deflected it with his blade, the clash of godly force sparking off the golden surface. The fight began not with hesitation, but with the inevitability of two fates colliding.
They circled, blows ringing out like the toll of war. Thor struck downward, every hit fueled by desperation, not hatred. Loki met him with a whip-fast cunning, his dagger flashing like serpentine fangs, his every dodge taunting, elegant, cruel.
"Why have you done this?" Thor shouted, his voice hoarse as steel sang against steel.
Loki's eyes burned with pain and mockery. "To prove to Father that I am a true son of Asgard. That I am worthy!"
The words twisted into Beyla's chest. She stepped forward, voice breaking. "Loki-this isn't the way! You don't have to do this!"
For a moment, his gaze flicked to her. Just a heartbeat. A flash of softness that made her hope crack wide open-then the mask snapped back into place.
Thor seized the instant, hammer meeting blade, throwing Loki across the bridge. He skidded but rose, panting, his smirk venom-laced. "I never wanted the throne! I only ever wanted to be your equal."
Thor's reply was a roar as he charged, slamming Loki into the railing. The two grappled, brothers locked in a storm of grief disguised as war. Beyla watched with tears in her eyes, torn between them, every blow to Loki's body feeling like one to her heart.
The battle raged-Thor's brute strength against Loki's cruel precision, the bridge itself trembling under their fury. Loki conjured illusions, striking from every angle, but Thor's hammer tore through the mirages until the true trickster staggered into view, battered yet unyielding.
They locked eyes, and for the briefest moment, there was silence. Then Thor whispered, raw and broken: "I still love you, brother."
Loki's answering strike was merciless.
The clash sent a shockwave down the Rainbow Bridge. Beyla stumbled, clutching the railing, helpless as the gods she loved tore their family-and her heart-in two.
At last, Thor struck Loki down, sending him sprawling at the edge of the Bifrost's control. The cosmic torrent roared louder, threatening to consume Jotunheim. Thor looked at Beyla, anguish carved into his face, before lifting Mjolnir high.
"I must destroy it," he said, voice shaking.
Beyla's breath hitched. "Thor, if you do this-"
"I know." His gaze lingered on her, soft and aching. Then he turned, hammer shattering into the Bifrost's heart.
The bridge cracked, light screaming through the cosmos. Beyla cried out as the Rainbow Bridge splintered beneath them, hurling shards of color into the void. The roar of collapsing realms swallowed everything.
She reached for Thor as the world fell away-but Odin's hand was suddenly there, grasping Thor and Loki both, anchoring them to the edge. Beyla stumbled forward, landing against the All-Father's side, clinging desperately.
"Father!" Thor shouted, his muscles straining to hold Loki.
Loki dangled over the abyss, his face twisted with desperation and something like shame. "I could have done it! I could have destroyed them all!" His voice cracked, almost childlike. "For you, Father!"
Odin's face was carved from stone, sorrow heavy in his one good eye. "No, Loki."
Beyla's tears streamed hot and unbidden. She reached out, voice breaking. "Loki, please! Come back-come back to me!"
His gaze found hers at last. For one long heartbeat, all the fury and deception fell away. She saw him. Her Loki. Her love.
"Beyla..." he whispered, and the sound of her name on his lips was the last gift he gave her.
Then, slowly, he let go.
"No!" Beyla's scream tore through the heavens as Loki fell into the void, swallowed by nothingness. Her arm reached uselessly into the dark as Thor roared his grief beside her.
The silence that followed was worse than any battle. The Rainbow Bridge was gone. The cosmos was quiet. And Loki... Loki was lost.
Beyla collapsed into Frigga's arms hours later, the Queen's embrace the only thing keeping her from shattering entirely. Thor stood apart, silent, his grief a storm too vast to contain. Odin's silence was final, unyielding.
And so the chapter closed-not with triumph, but with heartbreak. With a goddess broken, a family torn, and a bridge destroyed that no power in the Nine Realms could rebuild.
