Four Months
Khalid's POV~~~(A wedding to remember)
When Hasan said weddings are confusing and a real neck breaker, I doubted him. But now? I know exactly what he meant. I haven't had proper sleep since the day before yesterday. Family coming and going, shopping, decorations it's just something else.
Yesterday, I had to tell my wife to run away with me from the house so we could actually breathe. It was really fun. We went to the park, had lunch at a restaurant, shopped at the mall, and came home just before Asr salah.
My mom teased me, saying I was too busy taking care of myself while leaving everyone else to hustle. I told her it was my big day, so I shouldn't even have to hold a spoon. She laughed and smacked me on the head. Hah, I really missed her. Alhamdulillah, she traveled all the way just to see me. Am I that important? Well... ask her.
After drying my hair and putting on my clothes, I texted my wife to escort me to the barber. She refused, saying women weren't supposed to be there. I was just joking anyway, but she understood the assignment she's the shy type.
After shaving my hair, I went to the field with my cousins to play a little football before heading home after praying Maghrib at the nearby mosque.
When preparations were finally done, everyone settled down. We prayed Isha, had dinner, and went to bed. Well, everyone except Yusra and me. We decided to video chat until 3 a.m. I showed her my haircut, and she said it was enticing. At first, I was a little sad not because I didn't know it was nice, but because I thought she didn't like it. Turns out she meant it looked great. No cap I didn't even know what "enticing" meant until she explained. She laughed at me the whole time. I had to end the call before she choked from laughing too hard just kidding. The real reason was because Amma insisted I sleep early, and staying up till 3 a.m. was too much.
She didn't want me to leave, so I just kept the call connected and let her talk until she fell asleep. Then we exchanged our salams and ended it. Marriage life is crazy you have to be selfless sometimes.
The Next Morning
After our little post-Fajr nap, I called Yusra to check on her. She said she was fine.
I went downstairs to greet my mom and Hasan. My dad couldn't make it to America he had work back home. My sister Raihanna booked a hotel nearby with her husband and son, so she came over from there. I was so happy to see her, especially since she brought her whole family just for my wedding. That's an honor.
After the "how are yous" and "I'm fines," we had breakfast and made our final preparations.
By 5 o'clock, we left for Yusra's house. I wore a white African kaftan that my mom bought me, applied kohl to my eyes, sprayed some perfume, and slipped on my shoes. Ready.
The reception started after Maghrib, and the hall was fabulous. No free mixing the women on one side, the men on the other. My wife wore a niqab even though she doesn't usually, just to hide the makeup. She said she didn't want any non mahram men to see her looking that beautiful, and I respected that. She chose dignity even on her wedding day.
Of course, weddings should never be a place where we disobey Allah. May Allah forgive us, because nowadays things are crazy.
The celebration ended close to midnight. Before leaving, I was told to see her, so I did. She showed me her face.
The makeup was beautiful Allāhumma bārik!
"I have a beautiful wife with beautiful character, mā shā' Allāh," I said. She smiled shyly.
"Thank you," she whispered.
I had to rush back home, so I just hugged her and left. We planned to travel to my home country tomorrow for the holidays before school opened again, so we had plenty of time to know each other better.
