"Come on Dick! I can't practice without someone to watch me!" A 7 year old girl with long brown hair braided down her back and bright green eyes named Tina Grayson shouted at her older brother while standing at the entrance to the circus tent.
"I'm coming T, I'm coming," the nine year old Richard 'Dick' Grayson shouted back running into the tent. "Last one there is a rotten egg!"
"Not fair Dick!" Tina shouts running after Dick into the tent. As both kids ran past, they shouted hello to the other circus members practicing their acts.
Soon enough both kids were at the top of the trapeze platform about to start practicing.
"Alright T, watch me then you can try," Dick said to his little sister grabbing the bar and swinging off the platform, doing flips and other tricks before landing on the opposite side's platform. Tina grabs the bar and kicks off. She is able to do a simple turning trick, then she tries to do a flip, but as she finishes the flip she misses the bar and starts to fall. Tina turns over onto her back to prepare for the fall into the net below her when Dick grabs her left hand and drops both of them onto the platform.
"Thanks big brother but why did you save me when there's a net at the bottom?" Tina questioned.
"Cause when we perform in shows there is no net, so you shouldn't get used to it being there." Her older brother explained to her while they climbed down the ladder.
"Do you think mom and dad are ever going to let me preform?" Tina quietly asked her older brother who she knew she could go to for anything.
"Of course I do! Maybe they will even let you preform in the next show for an act. You really are getting better!" Her older brother comforted her.
"You think so?" She asks hope in her small eyes.

"But mom! I want to perform with you guys!" Tina shouted at her parents.
"Not tonight's performance my little finch" her father added on to her mothers answer.
Tina is about to continue complaining and simply state why she should be able to go on with both of them and Dick, or little robin as they called him, when they all hear, "Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls presenting our star act the Flying Graysons!"
"When we get back we can talk about you performing next week if you practice," her father said stepping out of the tent with her mother.
"Sorry little T, got to go!" Dick shouts at her as he exits the tent.

* later that evening*
Tina is wrapped in Dick's arms while Dick tries to explain what they knew about the man that  must have murdered their parents through choked sobs. Tina tries to process all of this and even though she feels sad, she doesn't cry.

Later that night Tina and Dick are taken to the local orphanage. They both don't sleep much but get out of bed when the lady in charge knocks softly on their door in the morning. They get up and go to one of the meeting rooms where they see the police commissioner from last night.
"We think we found foster homes for both of you," James Gordan says.
"Homes? As in different ones?" Tina asks.
"I'm afraid so, for the same reason you both can't stay with the circus, it's not safe for you to be in the same place together. I'm sorry but you should say your goodbyes," the commissioner answers sadly afraid to look at both the kids in the eyes.
The commissioner leaves for a moment and Tina stares at Dick.
"Why do I have to loose you too big brother?" She asks while crying for the first time since everything began.
"It doesn't matter that we are going to different places. You will never lose me or mom or dad," Dick says filling the role of big brother.
"Promise you and I will stay in touch," Tina says through her tears.
"I promise," Dick answers.
"Pinkie swear."
"Pinkie swear."
