The ride to the hospital was chaos. Charlie sat pressed against Rain on the stretcher inside the ambulance, his hands trembling as he tried to keep pressure on the blood Tharn and Type followed in their car, both pale with terror after hearing the information from Max about their son , while Tharn clutched his phone tightly, calling every doctor he knew, his voice breaking each time he had to say the words: “It’s my son… he’s bleeding… please be ready!”
Rain’s breaths came shallow, his lips dry and pale. His eyes fluttered weakly open for a moment, finding Charlie’s face above him.
Rain: (whispering) “Don’t… let them… hate me, phi Charlie…”
Charlie’s throat tightened, his tears falling freely.
Charlie: “Shh, don’t talk. You’ll be okay, Rain. You have to be okay—for your baby, for Venice.”
But Rain’s eyes slid shut again, his body going limp just as the ambulance screeched to a halt.
---
The hospital doors burst open, nurses rushing out with a gurney. They wheeled Rain inside with practiced urgency while shouting orders that blurred together: “BP dropping—get the transfusion ready—obstetrics, now!”
Tharn shoved past the reception desk, his face wild with panic.
Tharn : “That’s my son! Do everything you can—do you hear me?! EVERYTHING!”
Type caught his husband, pulling him back before he collapsed himself.
Type: “, breathe! If you lose it now, Rain will have no one left to fight for him out here.”
Tharn, voice thick with tears, added, “We’ll stay strong for him. That’s all we can do.”
Minutes turned into hours. The family sat in the cold, sterile waiting room, their clothes still stained from the chaos at the funeral. Charlie paced restlessly, hands in his hair, while everyone sat rigidly in the corner, staring blankly at the white wall, Tharn specifically knuckles bleeding from how tightly he had been clenching his fists.
Finally, the operating room doors swung open. A doctor stepped out, removing his mask with a heavy sigh.
Everyone shot to their feet.
Type: (desperate) “Doctor… my son—how is he? Please, just tell me!”
The doctor hesitated, his eyes lowering before meeting theirs again.
Doctor: “He lost a lot of blood. We managed to stabilize him for now, but the pregnancy is in danger. The baby’s heartbeat is faint, and we’re doing everything we can to preserve both lives. But… I won’t lie to you. It’s critical. We’ll need to keep him under close observation.”
Type covered his mouth with a trembling hand, tears spilling down his cheeks.
The doctor gently removed his grip, his expression professional but heavy.
Doctor: “All we can do now… is wait.”
The family stood frozen, hearts breaking anew as the weight of the night crashed over them. The funeral had been meant to send off one life—but now they were on the edge of losing another, caught between grief and hope, unable to breathe until the next update came.
And inside that room, Rain lay pale and unconscious, machines beeping steadily beside him, his hand resting weakly over his stomach as though even in his dreams, he was still protecting the child of the man he had lost.
While on the other hand Max and Nat sat at the corner with Nat holding Jeff tightly while the baby slept in warmth and comfort contradicting the environment.
