The little apartment was nothing special — chipped paint, a creaky wooden door, a window that barely let in the morning sun. But for Taehyung, it was his.
His first corner of the world away from the suffocating stares at home. And for Jungkook, it was the first time he’d seen Taehyung smile so freely while fumbling with mismatched curtains.
“Why does this window feel like it’ll collapse on me?” Taehyung grumbled, tugging the frame.
Jungkook snorted, arms crossed. “Because it will. I’ll fix it later.”
Taehyung turned, lips curling into a grateful smile. “You always say that.”
Jungkook didn’t reply. Instead, he set the bags of groceries down and quietly started arranging Taehyung’s cupboards. Taking care of him had become second nature — slipping extra tea packets into the shopping cart, making sure his meds (just vitamins, Tae insisted) were neatly stacked, and pretending not to notice how easily he got tired climbing the stairs.
That night, Taehyung looked paler than usual. He brushed it off, blaming the weather. Jungkook didn’t push, but he stayed a little longer, boiling soup in the dented pot.
“Why do you always act like my mom?” Taehyung teased, resting his chin on the counter.
Jungkook shot him a look. “If I was your mom, you’d be dead by now. You eat like trash.”
Taehyung laughed, soft and boyish, and Jungkook’s chest tightened. He didn’t know why this fragile boy’s laughter felt heavier than any punch he’d ever taken in the ring.
Two days later, they went out for “essentials.” Which somehow ended with Taehyung dragging Jungkook through aisles of unnecessary things: plush blankets, silly mugs, and a suspiciously large collection of scented candles.
(Taehyung glaring :- who the hell are you to declare that unnecessary🤨
Me :- ok..ok..hehe..my bad😅)
“Why do you need ten candles?” Jungkook muttered, holding the basket.
“In case there’s a blackout,” Taehyung defended, lips curling into a mischievous smile. “Besides, they smell nice.”
Later, in a small restaurant tucked in the corner of the street, Taehyung ordered beer. One became two. Two became three. And soon, Taehyung was a flushed mess with stars in his eyes.
Jungkook tried to confiscate the glass. Taehyung pouted. “You’re no fun, Kookie.”
“Stop calling me that in public.”
“But you’re my Kookieee~” Taehyung slurred, giggling as if the name itself was a joke.
He leaned closer, his face inches from Jungkook’s. “You know… you’re the only person who makes me feel safe.” His voice was soft, almost childlike. “Promise you won’t leave me?”
Jungkook’s breath caught. The room felt too warm, too loud, but all he could see was Taehyung’s doe eyes shimmering with drunken honesty.
“I’m not going anywhere,” Jungkook said quietly. “Not now, not ever.”
Taehyung grinned lazily, head falling onto Jungkook’s shoulder. Within seconds, he was asleep, lips curved in that rare, peaceful smile.
Jungkook sat there, frozen, heart thundering. He had no idea what this feeling was supposed to be, but he knew one thing: if protecting this boy meant carrying the weight of the world, he’d do it gladly.
The apartment was still bare, but Taehyung had insisted it already felt like home. Maybe it was the plants he’d crammed onto the windowsill, maybe it was the cheap fairy lights twinkling unevenly in the corner… or maybe it was simply because Jungkook always ended up there, carrying bags of groceries like a reluctant house-husband.
“You bought instant noodles again,” Jungkook sighed, pulling packets out of the bag.
Taehyung beamed, unashamed. “They’re a necessity. Like… socks. Or hugs.”
Jungkook froze at that last word, ears turning red. Taehyung didn’t notice — he was too busy unpacking the ten (yes, ten) vanilla candles he’d bought on their last trip.
