The garden was quiet, the kind of silence that felt alive. Broken stone paths wound through overgrown grass, and the remnants of a wrought-iron bench sat half-hidden beneath the shade of an old oak.
The air smelled faintly of wet earth and moss, a scent that always reminded Jungkook of the first time Taehyung had brought him here — this little abandoned heaven that somehow belonged only to them.
Jungkook sank onto the bench, notebook balanced on his knees. The pen moved almost on its own, weaving words he couldn’t yet speak aloud. His mind was a jumble of old memories: the sting of his father’s rejection, the ache of being unseen, the endless nights of quiet loneliness. Here, at least, he could breathe.
This place… he thought. This place keeps me alive when everything else tries to suffocate me.
The words on the page were delicate, raw, and unguarded:
"I’ve watched you laugh like the sun rises, And cried alone when the night falls heavy… If I could, I’d stitch the stars into your hair, Carry your sorrows in my own chest, And let nothing ever touch your heart."
He paused, staring at the ink as if Taehyung might somehow see it already. He brushed a hand over his face, trying to steady the tremor in his chest. He wasn’t sure why the poem hurt so much — maybe because it was true, maybe because he wasn’t ready for Taehyung to know.
A soft crunch of leaves made him look up. His heart stuttered.
Taehyung stood there, hands in his pockets, a faint smile on his lips, eyes that had always held a quiet warmth. “Kook…” he said softly, tilting his head. “What are you writing?”
Jungkook’s chest tightened. His first instinct was to hide the page. He lowered the notebook slightly, covering the words. “Uh… nothing. Just… some random lines.” His voice was even, but his hands shook slightly.
Taehyung stepped closer, curiosity mingling with concern. “No way. I’ve known you long enough to know when you’re writing… something. For someone, maybe?”
Jungkook’s lips pressed into a thin line. He wanted to laugh, wanted to deny it, wanted… everything at once. But he didn’t. Instead, he closed the notebook gently, sliding it onto his lap, keeping the words locked away. “It’s private,” he said, voice soft but firm.
Taehyung crouched slightly to sit beside him, careful not to disturb the fragile peace of the garden. “You always write like this… with so much weight,” he murmured. “I’ve seen your poems before. You pour yourself into them, don’t you?”
Jungkook’s gaze fell to the notebook. “Yeah… maybe.”
There was a long silence, filled only with the rustling of leaves and distant birdsong. Taehyung’s hand brushed lightly against Jungkook’s, not reaching for the notebook, not asking for the words — just presence, quiet and steady.
For the first time in hours, maybe days, Jungkook let himself breathe. He didn’t have to explain, didn’t have to defend, didn’t have to face the past. Taehyung sitting beside him, that small warmth, was enough to anchor him.
“Do you ever… let anyone read them?” Taehyung asked quietly.
Jungkook shook his head, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “No. Not yet.”
Taehyung nodded, as if understanding more than Jungkook could say. He leaned back slightly, letting his shoulder brush Jungkook’s. The garden didn’t feel abandoned anymore — it felt like a place where their worlds could quietly coexist, where poetry and laughter, pain and comfort, all mingled in a fragile, perfect balance.
Jungkook’s hand twitched toward the pen, tempted to write something else — something that might never leave the page, yet might still speak the words his heart couldn’t say aloud. And for now, he let Tae simply be there, letting the silence carry everything they didn’t yet have the courage to speak.
