Jay.

This morning was off to an awful start. Not only was I late for my first period, I had zero time to let Duke out, as Carlos had asked of me, which resulted in the little mutt leaving me a putrid gift on my pillow upon my return that evening.

My evening was spent cleaning up that mess, while Duke sat, watching me. Carlos had enjoyed a long, hearty laugh at the situation before abandoning me to play video games. We'd both decided to get to homework once "my" mess was cleaned up.

"Can you please put your thing on a leash while we're gone?" I scoffed at Carlos, who was mindlessly playing video games on the other end of the dorm. "Or at least show him some discipline?"

Carlos chuckled and turned to me, tossing one of his controllers on the table before him. "Maybe he wouldn't have crapped on your pillow if you had just taken him out this morning, like I asked you."

I rolled my eyes and shot the canine a glare before moving my attention to Carlos again, who was giving me the same expression I had given his pet. "I was late, I didn't have time to."

"How were you late? It's impossible to sleep through that bullhorn you call an alarm." Carlos slumped down on his bed and patted the spot beside him, which Duke quickly filled. Carlos grinned and began stroking his small companion, giving me a smirk.

It was then the door flew open and in marched Evie, our blue haired friend for years now. She had an excited, yet frantic, look on her face as she took a seat at the table. "Hey gu- what is that smell?"

"Care to explain, Jay?" Carlos smirked, now petting Duke even more.

"Duke left an au naturelle gift for me when I got back from class." I said, my lips folded in a plain expression.

Evie scrunched her nose in disgust. "That's disgusting. Anyway, there's a new girl."

"From the Island?" Carlos sat up. His eyes glazed over with hope, having he'd been praying someone from the Island would come and possibly "change their ways" as well. He was dreaming, clearly.

"No." Evie shook her head, "a princess."

I raised an eyebrow, "Why're you so excited? Walk down the hallway and you'll see fifty princess, minimum."

Carlos chuckled at my response and nodded, "He's right. What's so great about another princess? It'd be more exciting if a servant's kid came to this school."

Evie slid a seat out and quickly sat down, pressing her knees together, "But this is a real princess. She's the granddaughter of Triton, King of Atlantica."

"She's a mermaid?" I asked.

"No," Evie laughed, "well, not entirely. Her mother is Ariel. Remember? Ursula? When she wasn't in her store, she was rambling about how she almost had "it all.""

"I never payed attention to that squid. She scared me." Carlos rolled his shoulders as a pretend shudder, causing me to chuckle a bit.

"I guess that's cool and all, but we see "real" princesses everyday. I mean, we have classes with Audrey, she's Sleeping Beauty's daughter, she's a princess."

"But they're just princesses here." Evie whined, "this girl's family is from the sea."

"Which means she probably smells like fish, which is gross." I shrugged.

"And she can out-swim people, which is cocky." Carlos added, to which I nodded in agreement.

"You're both pathetic." Evie stood up, storming out of the room. The door clattered closed behind her, which threw Carlos and I into chuckles.
