His lips was exactly how she had imagined it to be; tender and sweet. His touch, soft and gentle. His words, promising. Enjolras had made absolute sure to pay close attention to Eponine's every comfort and pleasure, without any means of hurting her. This was what she had dreamed her first night with a man should have been.
Sadly, her first night with Montparness was violent, rough and barbarous. Nothing but torment. He was far from the euphoria and blissful joy that Enjolras could offer to her.
"Enjolras", she mewled, as he placed a flutter of butterfly kisses upon the crook of her neck.
It was their wedding night. The best night that Eponine would always remember, for the rest of her life. It was the perfect night.
She placed her hands on his back, to know that the man whom she loves is here and real.
"Argh", he grunted. On reflex, Eponine let go.
"Enjolras! Are you alright? Did I hurt you?"
He shook his head. "No, it's nothing. I just need to... sit down for awhile".
Eponine looked over to her spouse with concern. Even in dark lighting, she could easily see the pain in his eyes, and strain on his body. Did I accidentally open a past wound? , she thought. As she pushed the thought away, something captured her eye. She gasped.
"Enjolras... What are those on your back?" she asks, with lots of worry.
Though blinded from darkness, Eponine was able to make out two red streaks near his shoulders. Carefully, she traced it with her hand.
"It must have been horrible. What you did to make them do this to you?"
"It was", he whispered. "Truly horrible"

Eponine gazed into the abyss. Towards the unexplained. Towards... it. The last thing that Enjolras... Elise... that Cosette would give her. With hesitation, she clasped her hand around the blackened quill. It took only one look, as hot tears streamed down her face, and she couldn't seem to stop them. Her breath seemed to have been stuck in her throat.
How could she have not seen it coming? The yellow corn hair... the cerulean blue eyes... the scars... the ring... How could she be so stupid?
The ring...
Eponine raised her hand. It's still there... she breathed a sigh of relief.
"I still love you..."
Eponine whipped her head. That voice...
And there she felt it. She knew that she wasn't alone anymore. She was here with her. Eponine could feel her embrace.
"I will always be with you... I will always protect you... And I will never stop loving you... I promise..."
"I love you, Eponine Thenardier"
Eponine smiled, almost certain that she felt a single tear on her face.
"I love you too.
