[POV: Narrator]

Andi was standing in front of the bathroom mirror, leaning up close and then back again, tilting her face one way and then the other as if some small adjustment might make the eyeliner look sharper or the shade of lipstick sit more evenly, though she already knew she was basically done and just fussing with details for the sake of it.

Oscar was in the same small space beside her; He was tugging at his blazer, shrugging one shoulder and then the other, clearly pleased with how it looked but pretending to be casual about it.

He glanced at her more than at his own reflection, which she noticed, but couldn't smile at because the mascara hadn't dried yet.

"You look good," he told her, as if she needed him to confirm what she had already spent the last half hour trying to make sure of. "I have good taste, clearly."

"Mmh," she hummed, without turning her head away from the mirror. "I mean, the colour's nice," she said after a second, her voice deliberately flat, because if she let it sound too pleased then he would get cocky about it.

"I didn't mean the dress."

She looked at him, finally, and her eyes slipped down before she could stop them, to his mouth, which was silly because she knew he would notice, and he did. The second he caught her looking, she shoved his chin sideways with the heel of her hand, not too hard, but enough to move his face away from hers. "Alright, that's enough," she muttered, returning to the mirror.

"Wait, no," he said quickly, "I need help."

She glanced at him, skeptical, but then saw the tie, which of course he had managed to do wrong again. He always left it too loose or crooked, and she always had to fix it, and it'd happened a few too many times to be an excuse at this point. She sighed but turned to him, lifting her hands automatically to the knot, tugging it tighter and straight.

The second she focused on the fabric, though, he caught her by the jaw, pulling her forward, and kissed her like he had been waiting for an opening the whole time. She leaned into it instinctively before realizing what she was doing, then pushed him back with a muffled protest.

"Oscar!" she exclaimed, immediately checking herself, smudged lipstick catching her eye in the mirror. "I just did this, now look at it, it's—" she started, then caught sight of him in the reflection and almost laughed, because the smear wasn't just on her anymore, it was stamped across his mouth as well. "All over you." She let out another small laugh.

She reached for his mouth with her thumb, trying to rub away the mark, while he ducked from her and insisted it wasn't that bad.

"No, no, I think it looks good," he said, grinning as she tried to wipe it away. "Actually, I think I need some more—" He leaned forward again and she blocked him with her hand, laughing properly herself now.

"Alright, I'm all done, let's go," she said, and there was finality in her tone, but Oscar didn't hear it.

He leaned in again, slow enough that she felt her chest pulled forward almost against her will, but she caught herself at the last second, hand shooting up to cover his mouth before he could close the gap.

"Oscar," she said firmly, pressing her palm against his lips.

For a second he just stared at her, eyes glinting, and then — she felt the unmistakable pressure of teeth, biting down into the heel of her palm.

Her whole body jerked back. "Did you just—" She yanked her hand away, staring at him in outrage. "Did you just bite me?!"

He shrugged, hand closing around her other wrist, pulling it up until her hand was looped behind his neck, pulling her closer.
