"Can't it wait? I have some important business to do." Sherlock spoke into his phone as he looked at the sleeping John. "Lestrade I've already told you, I'm busy for the next couple of weeks. A case? No it isn't a case. It's family matters. Look, I've got to go." Sherlock hung up and went to make tea. He couldn't leave John, he was in too fragile a state to be left alone. But Lestrade had said it was crucial he came to see him. His train of thought was broken by his phone beeping.
*text:Mycroft*
Hey Sherlock, Lestrade has asked me 2 pick u up. He wants 2 c u 4 something? I'll pick u up in 20 mins.
"Damn Lestrade. Why couldn't he just leave me alone for once?" Sherlock muttered angrily. "Morning Sher, you okay?" He heard a sleepy sounding John ask behind him. "Lestrade wants to see me, he's sent Mycroft to pick me up in twenty minutes. I don't want to leave you John." John saw this as his opportunity to get out. It was fate, it had to be. "Just go, I'll be okay." Sherlock was hesitant. Could he really leave John alone? He was so afraid of something happening. "Are you sure? I can always refuse to leave."
"Yes I'm sure Sherlock. Don't worry about me please." Still seeing the worry, John went over and pulled Sherlock into a hug. "Honestly Sher, I'll be fine." Sherlock relented.
"Okay fine, I don't think I'll be long." There was a knock on the door. "That sounds like Mycroft, goodbye John."
"Goodbye Sherlock." With a final glance at his flatmate, Sherlock left the room. John waited a few minutes to make sure Sherlock wouldn't come back for anything before darting to their now shared bedroom. There was no way he was going to miss such a golden opportunity. He changed into a pair of comfortable jeans, a shirt, jumper and his jacket. He then packed a bag and filled it with money, spare clothes, some food, water and some basic toiletries. Then, John found a pen and paper and began to write his goodbye.
Dear Sherlock,
I'm sorry you have to read this. I had to leave. It was sudden and last minute but I had to go. It isn't you, I promise. I know you're going to want answers but I can't and I won't give them to you. Listen, you've been amazing. You are everything to me, I just want you to know that. Honestly, you are. Don't for one second think that this is your fault because it isn't. This is me simply saying goodbye. Just remember Sherlock, this is not your fault. None of this is. Please, keep smiling.
~John
John placed the letter on his bed and with a heavy sigh, picked up his bag. He was going to miss Sherlock but it was for the best. This way Sherlock wouldn't have to see his useless, pathetic body any longer. He turned and left the room and began to make his way anywhere.
A/N ~ sorry it was so short, the next part will be longer.
