Asonia sat back in her chair, hand on her swollen belly. She smiled when she felt a kick, and quickly grabbed the hand of the closest person, and set it where the baby was kicking.
Zaclyn was in the middle of discussing the latest attack on Zindaki merchant ships with Caa've, when his hand was suddenly on his empresses stomach. He stopped talking when he felt the tiny kick.
"She sure has been kicking quite a lot lately." Asonia said.
"She? I thought you two didn't know yet."
"Oh, we don't. But I think it's a girl." She replied, rubbing her stomach. "Though, Pavel thinks it's a boy. We're finding out later today."
"Well, whatever the gender, at least it's healthy." Caa've spoke up, a smile on his face. "I hear you haven't picked out any names. Need some suggestions?"
"No, Mr. Caa've, we're good. But thank you."
Caa've nodded his head, and him and Zaclyn began talking again. Asonia didn't really pay much attention, though, she knew she should.
Since she got married, her and Pavel agreed that he would replace her as head of the council. Which was something Asonia was glad for. Especially since she became pregnant. The stress of being empress was enough, and the council made it ten times worse.
"What do you think Asonia?" Zaclyn asked, and she jumped.
"I'm sorry, but I have been a bit distracted lately. What do I think about what?"
"About the attacks on the merchant ships. It's not the Klingons, that we know for sure. And it's definitely not the Romulans. What do you think we should do?"
"How many people have been killed?"
"That's the thing, no one. The crews report sudden power outages, then when the lights come back on, all of their cargo was gone." Caa've explained.
"Why attack our ships then? If whoever is responsible for these attacks is only taking our goods, then why not kill the crews as well?"
"That is a question we've been asking ourselves."
"I propose we include cameras with night vision on the cargo decks of our ships. I also suggest we use different paths. There is more than one way to Vulcan. As well as Earth." She said, sitting up a bit. She moved her hair over to one shoulder. "Then we wait to see if they attack again."
"Yes mistress. I will alert the council of your propositions." Caa've said, he bowed, then walked out of the meeting room.
Zaclyn turned to Asonia, a weary look on his face. "How have you been Asonia?"
"I've been fine, why do you ask?"
"You seem to be a bit more distracted then usual."
"It's the whole pregnancy thing. I just.... I'm worried I won't make a good mother, and having been a doctor, I know all the possible ways things could go wrong, and....." She stopped, and crossed her arms. "I'm scared."
Zaclyn knelt down until he was face to face with Asonia. "You will be a wonderful mother. And your baby is perfectly healthy. You have no reason to be scared."
"But that's the problem. I know I shouldn't be scared, but I am anyway. It's the stupid hormones."
Zaclyn smiled at her comment on hormones, and she smiled too. "Come on empress, I think you need some ice cream."
"You're the best Zaclyn."

Later that dayPavel sat down beside his wife on the couch. He sighed, and sat back. It had been a long day of arguing, debating, and thinking.
Asonia leaned against him, and rested her head on his shoulder. "Have you spoken to Jim at all?"
"No, not since he dropped me off from the meetings, vwhy?"
"I don't think he, or Bones know I'm pregnant. I kind of want to tell them."
"We can video message them later." Pavel replied, rubbing his hands over his face.
"Are you up for one more thing before you fall into your nightly coma?" She asked, and he sat up a bit.
"What is it we're doing?"
"I have an appointment in ten minutes." Pavel's eyes widened, and he stood up in a hurry.
"Oh my goodness, yeah! I'm up to finding out! Come on!" He exclaimed, helping her stand up.
She laughed at him, and they began headed out of the room, and to the medical room. The doctor was already there, she smiled at Asonia while getting the machine ready.
It was similar to an earthen ultrasound, but was developed by the Zindaki people. "Okay, you know the drill, empress." The doctor said, handing Asonia a change of clothes.
She nodded, and went into another room to change. It was just a white T-shirt with matching sweat pants. But it felt good to be wearing them, and she couldn't get the ultrasound done in her dress.
Asonia walked back into the room, and sat down on the cushioned table. Dr. Brocklyn, pressed the wand to her stomach, and moved it around.
"Ha! There we go! There is your baby." She said, pointing at the screen. Pavel and Asonia smiled at the image. "Now, would you finally want to know the gender? I'm getting tired of being the only one who knows."
"Yes, vwe vwant to know." Pavel said, holding his wife's hand.
Dr. Brocklyn nodded. "It's a girl."
"Ha! I knew it!" Asonia said, and Pavel smiled. A girl. They were going to have a daughter.
"Well, that's all for now. I suggest you lay off the sweets until after she is born born. And no overexerting yourself."
"Yes ma'am."
Together, hand in hand, they walked back to their room. Thinking. Asonia was trying to think of names, and Pavel was wondering who she would be like the most. Asonia, or him.
Though, he liked to think his daughter would be just like her mother, a literal miniature version. But he wouldn't get to know until after she was born.
"So what should we name her?" Pavel asked, later that night. Asonia was laying in bed, playing with her hair.
"I don't know. I'm tired though."
He laughed, and got into bed as well. She curled up next to him, and soon, the were fast asleep.
