Imminent

Chapter 3

There's no sunlight. I'm in a seat strapped in and flying. Jules and a few other unknown faces are around me. I try and get up but I'm strapped to the chair. I take a good look at Jules, she's a few seats away from me.
"Welcome initiates, this is your captain do not struggle you are safe now" a voice booms out "enjoy your new home " the spacecraft shakes and then stops, an oxygen mask comes down in front of everyone and the seatbelts unlock. I put on my mask like everyone else, the girl next to me is struggling with hers, she obviously doesn't know how to. I stand up with mine around my mouth and put hers on her, she looks at me with her chocolate brown eyes lighting up when she smiles.
"Tullibee" she says as if remembering something "my name is Tullibee"
I nod "Seth. Where are we?" She shrugs her shoulders and stands up the loud voice tells us to make two lines, girls and boys. I walk to the line of boys and stand behind a Zac Efron look alike, glancing at the line of girls at the other door I see Tullibee and I smile. A boy behind me pushes me to indicate that we've started walking, I follow the guy in front down a long white hallway into a oversized white reception room. Jules goes down the girls line inserting something into their wrists, a different medic walks down our line not as gentle as Jules. He rams the thing into my wrist, I muffle my scream by biting on my bottom lip. Cutting it. "Section E" he says pointing down a hall. I walk down the hall and find section E, I open the door and find a living room full of people, Tullibee. I shut the door behind me and sit on the couch next to Tullibee and a few others, a guy claps his hands and walks into the centre.
"Hi" he says "Welcome to Section E as the society and board call it. We call it Enuki's after some sort of earth spirit. Let's get into a circle and introduce ourselves" he smiles and we all shuffle into a circle, there's nine people in this section. The man or should I say boy clears his throat "My name is Neem, on earth I used to enjoy gaming and was the head boy of my school" he pushes up his glasses and points to the girl next to him "Halo, I like art and vlogging" she says quietly it goes round until it stops at the Zac Efron look alike
"Hi everbody" he says "my name is Rue and I like blowing things up" The next stops at a girl who looks like she's a cheerleader "My name is Willow, I like to LARP and read" I nod, the circle isn't that big but I listen especially to Tullibee. "Ah hi I'm Tullibee" she pauses for bit "I like crazy adventures". Everyone eventually introduces themselves. Rue, Halo, Willow, Neem, Akyri, Flax and Nova. I stand up and slink to the couch breaking the circle. There's a window wall in the room looking out on earth and outer space. Holy shit. I'm no longer on earth, I'm in space!
"The professor just sent these with a strong message to go into your room, relax and watch" Neem says handing us a black metal band and pointing at the door which we go through. The room is made up of four bunk beds each has a name on it. I find my bed, bottom bunk furthest from the door, Nova is already on the top. I sit down and put the band around my head a screen pops up in front of me with the words starting in 12 seconds it starts counting down 8 Tullibee bunks last one in. 4 what is this going to be? 2...1... 0. The screen shows my house and zooms in to my family sitting around the table with cop showing him my picture. The lights suddenly go out, mum rummages in the draw to find the torch but it's flat.
"Mummy?" Lacey calls out in the darkness, it's night the room is pitch black. "Mummy?!" Lacey calls again her voice fulled of a combination of fear and worry.
"Over here precious" mum calls back "stay where you are, sing baby" mum walks towards Lacey using her soft voice as navigation, she finds her and hugs her. Dad and the police officer join her and they head towards the bunker. They have just shut the door and seal it when the room shakes violently for two minutes, the number 7.6 pops up on my screen, earthquake. They're huddled together wishing it would stop, it zooms out like its a movie to the street where a number of buildings are rubble on the barren street, people's lifeless and crushed corpses are scattered everywhere. It switches back to my family and the cop setting up beds in the bunker preparing for a night in hiding oblivious to what's to come, the screen goes black. A message to grab to a snack and go back pops up. I take off my band and grab popcorn and a drink that was being passed around by an android. I put the band back on and it flickers back to life. My family and the cop sound asleep, a count down appears on my screen.
2:45:07 till nuclear fallout. Yet my family will sleep through it all and never know what hit them until they go outside. I hope the cop is first. I watch my family sleep peacefully and the timer going down 00:02:35 till nuclear fall out and here I am watching them being lead into an imminent death trap eating popcorn and drinking Pepsi. 3-2-1 there bunker shakes and dad wakes up, our house is thankfully outside the radiation zone but the main city is hit bad. I take the band off and put the remaining food on the floor. I don't want to watch my family die.
