The last few weeks have been a journey. I can't believe Thanksgiving is a week away and Angel and I have now finally set a date for our first official date. It seems like this whenever we try things stop us. I don't know if I should take it as bad timing, bad luck, or a sign from the universe. Either way, I turned and looked away whether or not they were really signs. I wanted everything to be perfect, and Angel promised me it would be.
Carolina came over earlier today to help me pick an outfit and hype me up. As ridiculous as it sounds I was still nervous, I was always nervous with Angel. Every time he kissed me or hugged me, even when his legs brushed up against mine, I always got butterflies. The little things he does or says are what makes me like him more and more. After our very rocky start, I was able to really get to know the guy underneath all the confusion.
Angel was like the clouds in that purple and orange sky we started his window at. The blissful feeling of when morning dew hits your face, the euphoric feeling of taking a late-night drive with your friends, and that enchanted feeling of sitting in a park during the summer and feeling a cool breeze hit your face while watching the water ripple on the pond's surface. Angel was all that and more, and he didn't even know it.
My doorbell rang and I rushed down fully dressed. I took a deep breath before opening the door. I needed to prepare myself because this was the beginning of our perfect night. I wrapped my hand around the knob and swung the door open and there he was. With a smirk on his face and flowers in his hand.
"What's this?" My eyes twinkled at the bouquet of red ranunculus he held.
"Just some beautiful flowers for a beautiful boy."
He reached his hand out and handed them to me. "Thank you." I kissed him and invited him in. "I'm gonna go put these in a vase, then we can head out."
He stepped in and said hello to my parents. "How are you guys?"
"Doing better." My mom sat up and smiled at him. "That's very sweet for you to bring flowers."
"If I knew you were home I would have brought you one also." He grinned, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"I know you would, you're a sweet kid." She looked at my dad, almost telling him to say something.
"I want to apologize; Angel, we both want to. It wasn't fair that you got pulled into our family drama. But I also want to thank you for being there for Kendall. We were so afraid for that week but had some comfort knowing you were looking after him." Dad got up and hugged Angel. "You're a good kid."
Angel's head dropped to the floor, almost like he didn't believe him. "Thank you, Mr. Flores. That means a lot coming from you."
I stepped out of the kitchen and put the flowers on the kitchen table with a huge smile. "Are you ready to go?" I smiled at them, thankful they got along so well.
"I'm ready when you are." He reached his hand out and I walked overtaking it. "I'll get him home safe Mr. Flores."
"Have fun, you guys." My dad fixed my hair. I spent so long making sure it looked flawlessly messy.
We headed out of the house and straight towards the train station. I was totally in the dark about what we were doing but I knew for a fact it was in the city once we left queens. I was very fidgety during the entire train ride and Angel could tell, he held my hand the entire way as I bugged him about my guesses about what we were gonna do.
We got off at Bryant park and I wasn't sure what was around the area. Angel showed me the Whole Foods that was right across the street, and right next to it was a jewelry store. Time square was only a few blocks away and situated between them all was a marijuana truck. I shook my head and scoffed at the memory of Angel's dad being in jail still.
